XANDER'S POV:

For the first time, seeing Ariana cry didn't send me the urge to comfort her but instead, it filled me with outrage because I could see the person I hate the most in her.

Is the person I love the most supposed to be the person I hate the most? Is Ariana actually Desmond's niece? But if she is his niece, why would he torture and cage her for five years? Why would he let his men rape her?

All these questions clouded my mind. But also, Desmond used to love his niece more than anything. He would die and kill for her. It didn't make any sense why would he make his niece go through all those sufferings. Why would he even torture her in the first place?

I sighed. I had so many questions and so many certainties that equating them altogether, none of them made sense. I've never been through a situation where I didn't know what the fuck I was supposed to do. It was completely blank for me. Nothing was understandable anymore. My mind was just losing its pace. That was when I heard a faint and stuttering voice calling my name which got me back to my senses.

Obviously, it was Ariana's voice. Her eyes were red and puffy after the prolonged crying session she just had. She was still shuddering for breath and weeping. She looked so fragile and vulnerable at that moment that I kept all my thoughts aside and ran towards her. I pulled her in my arms and hugged her tightly. I made sure that my grip wasn't too tight because she was already having too much difficulties in breathing.

"What happened, princess?" I asked, softly.

But I received no reply. She was indeed trying to talk but she didn't have any energy to do so. Also, she was shuddering too much to even be able to speak a syllable. She was having difficulties in breathing and held my shirt as tightly as she possibly could. She started yelling as her try to speak failed because of her difficulties in breathing properly. I held the back of her head and kissed her.
