valerie hale has many friends. she may have a constant feeling of loneliness in her heart, but she still has friends. she gets along with adults, the school staff adoring the little blonde who always greets them. before this life, she wanted to be a teacher and she lives vicariously through them.
valerie has a few friends from the cheer team, a sport which her family does not deem her to be a threat to anyone. it took a lot of convincing for her and cadence to join the team, rosalie and edward being the most opposed. but once again, arguing with cadence doesn't end well for anyone so they obviously got their way. esme and emmett are their biggest supporters, cheering very loudly at the games.

while valerie liked human company, she couldn't help but feel like her companionship was never truly return. while she wanted to put in effort, it seemed that others didn't. she was used to this.
she had some immortal friends, most of them introduced to her by cadence. but during her ripper says, she cut off contact with cadence. it was during these times where she found lots of immortal company, either mateless or mated couples. her history with the beautiful blond and red haired couple was not in her finest hours, but it still has her giggling to herself in recollection. she also met damon during these days, with whom she is still in contact.
her most unlikeliest friend of them all is sam uley. the cullens were forbidden from entering on their territory, but new member valerie did not know this when she stumbled into a beautiful black wolf one of her first hunts in forks.
about two years ago valerie first met sam uley after a disgusting deer meal. he was in his wolf form patrolling, alone, since nobody else was phasing yet. valerie hopped into the tree and stared in confusion, amazement and fear. mostly amazement, especially when this wolf shifted into a boy of around 17. he had beautiful tanned skin and dark brown eyes, the same eyes in his wolf form.
"i know you're there leech i can smell you," the deep voice said. he too was scared, since he had only ever encountered the cullens once and this scent was unfamiliar to him. valerie jumped down from the tree with her hands up. "i mean no harm i swear. i did not realize i crossed the treaty line i-" "get the hell out of here then." "wait!" valerie shouted without thinking. the boy turned to her, keeping a distance.
