A/N: Hey sorry, I rushed to get this chapter out so ignore all the shite writing. I'll go and edit it another day when I can and thank you so much to those of you who are voting and commenting, I appreciate you so much.

This actually physically hurt me to write and I'm sorry if it hurts to read but I plan on making a part 2 cause I really can't leave this unresolved, can I?

You crush the dirt against your shoes, avoiding Aragorn's intrusive gaze.

"I do not love Legolas." You grit, still looking at the ground, afraid Aragorn would see straight though your lie.

"Don't lie (y/n), practically everyone can tell."

Were you really that obvious?

"I think you mistake my friendliness as an act of pursuit." You drawl sarcastically, finally feeling confident enough to meet his eyes.

Aragorn smirks. "Has anyone ever told you you have cute ears?" He mocks in a higher-pitched voice, reciting what you had said to Legolas earlier in the week.

Heat rushes to your face and you clench your fists in an attempt to stop yourself from smacking that cocky grin off his face. You look at Aragorn as you stand. "Drop it."

You harshly nudge his shoulder as you pass, not looking back as you disappear past the trees.

Instant regret fills you and you shrink down to the ground, shaking your head. Why were you so mean? You didn't know why Aragorn's teasing bothered you so much. He was the most honourable man you had ever met, and you knew he had your best intentions, and here you were, giving him the cold shoulder because he was smart enough to see past your façade?

If he wasn't going to drop it, you had to convince him you didn't like Legolas.

Walking back to the camp after a short while, you see that the rest of the fellowship had returned. You make eye contact with Legolas and he smiles. You don't return the smile as you spot Aragorn off to the side. You turn away from Legolas and beeline to sit at an empty spot.

The time drags on and the sun lowers as it makes way for the moon. You hug your knees against your chest, attempting to trap your body heat as the last of the spring day leaves the sky.

You watch as Gimli stands and kicks the dying fire. "Could somebody please get some more firewood? Not all of us can stand freezing temperatures like the mighty elves." He spits the last word, glaring at a certain platinum elf.

Aragorn stands. "(Y/N) and I will get some."

You jolt your head up, widening your eyes and looking at Aragorn pleadingly. Before a protest can leave your lips, Aragorn is dragging you up and away into the woods.

When you're out of earshot from the rest of the fellowship, Aragorn releases his grip on your arm and you spin around to face him. "What was that for?" You say, scrunching your face in confusion.

Aragorn rubs the back of his head. "I spoke to Legolas."

"So?" You ask, crossing your arms.

"He harbours feelings for you."

You freeze. He what?

You shake your head. That can't be true. Aragorn was still teasing you. He's just saying that to embarrass you.

Well you weren't that easily fooled.

"What makes you think that means anything to me?" You say, ignoring how the words seem to burn your tongue as you speak them.

Aragorn looks taken aback. "You can lie to me (y/n), but don't lie to yourself."

"You still think I'm lying?" You reply, angry at how he seems to see right through you. "I'm a human. He's an elf. What makes you think that would work?" You spit.

"You seem to be forgetting mine and Arwen's relationship."

"Yeah and how does that seem to be going for you?" You retort before you can think about it and shame overwhelms you as you realise what you had just said.

The look on Aragorn's face says all you need to know.

You've gone too far.

But you can't stop as you open your mouth to continue. You feel like another person as you hear the words leave your mouth.

"And why would I ever love such a self-serving, self-righteous elf such as him?"

Stop. You tell yourself. But the world seems so distant and you lose yourself as you let the lies spew from your mouth. "He's just like his father - arrogant and cold and thinks he's so much better than everyone."

Aragorn stares at you with wide eyes. You can practically tell what he's thinking; this isn't like you. Everything seems like it's happening in slow motion as Aragorn's gaze shifts to something behind you and you turn to follow it. Your heart drops and you think you're going to die as your own words choke you, relaying in your mind in a constant loop mockingly.

You stare at Legolas, meeting his glistening eyes that make the blue even more electrifying. You don't deserve to look at them. But you can't look away as he stands there, gaping. Your mouth opens but it's too dry and any words you could have spoken dies on your tongue. How ironic.

You can only watch as Legolas walks away and you swear your heart still isn't beating. Somehow, his silence makes it worse. You wish he would just turn back around, yell at you, cry at you, just say something. Anything would be better than watching as his form disappears from view. And you wouldn't be surprised if that was the last time.

You turn back around slowly, body shaking at your barely contained sobs. You look back at Aragorn, almost pleadingly. You want to tell him you didn't mean those words, you want to admit that you do love Legolas. You love him so much it's terrifying because you've never felt this much for someone. But he knows. He's always known. It's Legolas you should have told. Because now he's walking away thinking you hate him, that all your interactions were fake, that you think he's like his father. You used his biggest insecurity as leverage and you hurt him.

Tears flow from your eyes and you fall to your hands and knees, sobs finally breaking free as realisation sets in.

You feel Aragorn sit down beside you. Feel him touch your shoulder. But it feels so far away. He feels so far away.

Was there ever coming back from this?
