The squallers let them travel at a very fast speed, they saw the boarder of the Southern Colonies within a day. Which was good because they hadn't much time left. Six days was nothing for this huge mission. Finding the object was one thing but getting to Ketterdam and finding the place to put it was another. The Buzzard hadn't been very specific about what they had to do which worried Nikolai a lot.

Him and Teuta didn't get much sleep, one of them was always woken by a nightmare. And the nightmare was called Cassian. The two still couldn't believe what had accoutred the past day, it seemed impossible that Cassian was alive. Well, not technically but he was breathing. And potentially immortal.

"Why would he be immortal?" Teuta asked with a frown as Nikolai handed her a map of Kerch. He had just marked the area where they had to search for the place to put the object. "He wasn't Grisha, he died as a human."

Nikolai shrugged. "It would fit into the narrative. And the Buzzard is immortal, right? Maybe the ones who are bonded to him are as well because he was the one grabbing them from the Upside Down."

"Well, I hope you're wrong about that," she sighed and studied the map. "I would love to live a few more years and not get killed by an immortal bird. Or worse – Cassian."

Nikolai would like to live for a few more years as well. Decades if it was for him. Although he had already experienced more than most people his age had, there were still a few things left he wanted to do before his time was up. All of his plans included Teuta.

He couldn't stand the thought that they would get separated once again, he had enough of the distance that was always brought between them. If he hadn't insisted on coming with her to get to Bassim, it would have been the third time, all initiated by her.

It wasn't her fault though, he knew that. She had been chased out of the country the first time because his father wanted to kill her. The second time a message made her leave because there had been another attack. If these things wouldn't have occurred, she would have stayed without a doubt. Because she didn't want to leave him, either.

She could have left him after their first job or after he revealed his plans about betraying the Darkling. Or after their journey through the fold. After their talk in his tent. Any time on their way to Os Alta. She could have left every day she had spent in the palace, but she stayed – Partially for her properties but he liked to think about him as the only reason she stayed. No matter how problematic a situation seemed or how crazy one of his plans was, she was always there for him.

Whatever happens, I'll be there. By your side.

And now it was his time to stay and help her through the situation, it was the least he could do for her. Saints, is it too much to ask to just get this done safely, defeat the villain once again and live a calm live? Together, in peace?
