Fluff, Friendship, some Angst

🎸

Nikki had made it big. He had always said he would, and he did.

But with fame came more problems for him.

Heroin was the biggest. It was his oxygen, his everything. That shit that made him something I didn't recognize, was his lifeline.
She was the other problem. She had been calling him. Reminding him of his father, or lack thereof, blaming him for her failure, calling him a failure himself.
The two mixed together only meant one thing for Nikki, more heroin and more booze.

I knew that both of those things were terrible for him, but even I couldn't get through to him. His best friend of 15 years couldn't get through to him. I knew he needed time to himself to think or shoot up, but enough was enough. I was worried about him. I knew he needed me, but this stunt that Doc pulled just went to show how much.

I had taken the elevator down to the lobby with Nikki. Well, let me rephrase that, we happened to be in the elevator at the same time. Anyways, when the doors opened, let's just say we were both shocked to see her standing there.

"Frankie!" She exclaimed wrapping her arms around him. And embrace that he did NOT return.
"It's been so long. I missed you."

"Don't touch me."
He said trying to pull her away from him. The proximity beginning to be too much for him. She was too much for him.

"Frankie?"
She questioned backing away slowly.

"That's not my fucking name!"
He shouted before turning back to the elevator.

I looked at Doc appalled as to why he thought this would be a good idea.

"Doc. Speak with me. Now."
I said in a low but demanding tone.
He nodded and walked a few feet away from her.

"What the fuck were you thinking?"
I hissed through my clenched teeth.

"I thought it would help."

"Help?! Help. Help isn't dragging this bitch back into his life. You don't get to make decisions like that when you know dick about her. What the fuck do you mean help?"
I all but growled at the man.
I shook my head and took the elevator back up to Nikki's room.

I knocked on the door and heard hushed cries on the other side, my heartbreaking for the man. I gently pushed the door open and let him know it was me.

"Nikki. Sweetheart, I'm coming in."

"June?"
He asked, sitting up realizing it was me.
His eyes were red and puffy as fresh tears made their way down his face.

"Nikki."
I sighed making my way over to him. I climbed over his legs to straddle him and brought him into a hug, and that broke him even more.
"Shh Sweetheart, don't cry. She's gone. It'll be okay. You won't have to deal with her anymore."

"I didn't think she would ever come back. Why was she here?"
He sniffled into my neck.

"Doc thought it would help."
I sighed playing with the ends of his hair like I did when we were teenagers.
"Nikki, look at me."

He lifted his face from my neck and I grabbed his face in my palms, my thumbs gently wiping the tears that are falling.

"She's gone, I promise. She can't hurt you anymore. I won't let her. Nikki, Doc brought her here because he thought seeing her would help. It won't and we both know that. Nikki, you can't run anymore. You need to face your past. But when you do, you can't be on that shit."

"That shit helps. It numbers everything. I get warm and fuzzy inside and I'm happy and at peace. That only happens with you and heroin. You won't always be here-"

"Yes, I will be. I'm not going anywhere. You will always come first."
I reassured him grabbing his hands in mine and interlacing our fingers.

"I love you June-bug."
He said looking into my eyes.

"I know Niks. I love you t-"

"No! No, June you don't understand. I love you more than heroin or life itself. I love you. You're what I think about when I wake up, and when I fall asleep. You're what makes me want to stay alive. You're my June-bug and I love you. So much."
He said, his hand moving to the back of my neck.

"I love you too Nikki. That's why it bothers me so much how downhill you've gone. You used to be so energetic and happy. You used to not give a fuck in a good way. Nikki, sometimes I don't even recognize you."
I said wrapping my arms around his neck.

"I'll try baby, I'll try for you. I'll get clean, I'll go to rehab, I'll do whatever, I promise. Just please, please don't leave me. Ever. Don't ever leave me please."
He pleased, his eyes glossing over once more.

"I won't Nikki, I promise. But I don't want you to just get clean for me. Get clean for yourself, for the band, for your fans. Be your old self again Nikki."

"I'll try."
He whispered.

I brought him towards me and leaned it gently, not wanting to rush Nikki into something emotional so quick. Apparently, me and Nikki were on two different pages because Nikki was quick to close the gap between us.
When we pulled away for air, our foreheads rested against one another as our breathing calmed.

"Be my girl June."
He finally said after seemingly having an internal battle with himself.

"Of course Nikki."
I said pecking his lips for the last time that night.

As of now, it's me and Nikki against the world. He won't stand alone anymore, I'll be there beside him. Always. Together there isn't anything that will drag him down.

Not even her.

So the ending kinda seemed like the ending to a superhero movie. Idk why but that's what I thought of. Anywho, please tell me if this ending was what everyone expected.
