sodapop curtis

she was so beautiful, everything about her, in and out. never did i ever stop listening to her voice, it was soft and angelic, almost like a song but it was just straight up taking. claire was everything beyond sandy, the girl who never had anything nice to say to my gang, especially johnny cade.

it was only our 3 month anniversary when i caught her saying something absolutely rude about johnny's scar from the socs, saying they should've gotten him real good to make him look like frankenstein. we took a two week break until i decided to get back with her.

"...so then i was like, 'that dress was so not it.' and then she just slaps me!" claire giggles.

"i'm sorry but who was it that you were talking about?" i shook my head.

"cherry valance." she stated.

"right, go on." i said.

claire smiled, pouted, smiled again, then pouted when explaining the story of her and cherry valence's big fight. the name sounds familiar but i couldn't wrap my mind around who it could be.

she finally finished the story when i pulled into the drive-in. i parked by the screen and concession stand, claire sat still but with a bright smile. i put the car on park then unbuckled my seatbelt, trying to get comfortable in my seat.

"you hungry?" i asked, she shook her head. "well i'm gonna go and get a popcorn, you're welcome to take as much as you want."

"i'm good, soda." she declined, "thank you though."

i shrugged and hopped out of the truck, there came barreling in was a blue mustang. i looked back at the car to see if claire was okay, she seemed very stable while watching the movie.

i ordered a medium sized popcorn before walking back, only to bump into the socs. they turned around with a devilish smirk on their face, i could only keep my eyes on the car and claire who seemed to be fine.

"sodapop curtis, the dropout with dead parents." one of them, bob sheldon snarled.

"leave me alone godammit, i'm only here to watch a movie." i rolled my eyes.

"who said i was gonna let you off so easily?" he tried to grab my shoulder, that was when the passenger side door opened.

"fuck off, sheldon!" claire walked up to us, the boy next to him was shocked.

"grease mackin' on kid anderson?" that only made bob squeeze my shoulder tightly.

"let go or else." she glared at him.

"let him off, bob." the ape face said.

i tried to follow claire into the car but she was later dragged away with ape face, they were arguing in the distance. claire sent a harsh slap to the boy with an angry face, she stormed off back to me, grabbing my arm and pushing me into the car.

she sat down in frustration that she almost ripped the seatbelt, she threw it back to where it came from, her eyes looked like they were trying its best to hold the tears. i placed my hand onto her shoulder but all she did was smile at me.

claire only kept her eyes on the screen the entire time. the mustang drove off with the engine roaring for the whole drive-in to hear. i sighed while trying to get my mind on other things other than barging into claire's business.

the movie was halfway done until i heard silent snores next to me, i laughed a little when i saw claire snoozing on my right. i placed her head on my shoulder as the sound of a machine gun roared from the black and white screen, claire jumped when she heard the sound.

"you're okay, it's just the movie." i reassured her, "what's going on in your small head?"

"nothing, just a bit tired." she sighed.

she placed her head back on my shoulder as the movie went on, we didn't want to waste our money on the tickets just to not watch the full movie. claire almost fell asleep but every time i caught her, she forced her eyes to stay open.

the movie went for the end credits, i began following the other cars out to the exit. claire still had her head in my shoulder only this time, she actually fell asleep. the feeling was so calm i thought of her soft snores as humming birds, like the birds in cinderella or whatever disney has on for two-bit and pony.

"soda?" claire calmly called out.

"yes, claire?" i looked down at her during a red light.

"can we stop by the park, i don't want to go home." she pleads.

"of course."

i pulled up by the curb, placed the car in park. claire hopped out of the car then stretched, sitting in a car for an hour does a lot to your bones. i went over to the swings while holding claire's hand who was right behind me.

she went into one of the two, begging me to push her. i was worried i might push her off but instead, i gave her a small push. claire felt alive and mostly awak when in the air, she even laughed in between the pushes.

her arms waved in the air like she was a freed bird, claire kicked her legs until she felt like she was falling. i jumped into catch her but she toppled over me, we were now face to face in the ground.

"that was one way to end our first hangout." i chuckled.

"hopefully won't be our last." she grinned as she got up, dusting the moloch chips off her dress.

"what do you mean by that?" i said, looking up at her.

"i like hanging out with you soda, i mean it." she shrugged, "i just hope we can hangout more."

"oh doll, you don't gotta beg for it, you just ask and of course i'll go." i simply stated.

"what if you're busy?" claire mentioned.

"never will there be a day where i'm too busy for you."

if we thought our day would end just fine, a blue mustang was lurking from behind...
