Cassie was pushed into a room, and the next hour was a lot of measuring and fitting her new clothes as she met some of the maids there.

Most of the maids were not very kind, and it seemed that they hated being there, but there were a few that she liked. Sunny, like her name,  had a very sunny personality and was apparently from Earth and somehow managed to get to Asgard. She liked being a maid so she was always cheerful. Dolores was the head maid, and she was very nice to Cassie, helping her learn what she was to do.

She still hadn't found out whose maid she was to be, having been pushed out of the throne room before she could request anyone, although she wasn't sure what she would have said anyway.

A week had passed without Cassie seeing any of the royal family since she started being a maid. Being a maid didn't seem to be so bad. It was mostly dusting off rooms, polishing armor, and bringing food to rooms.

She was a little confused and sad as to why she hadn't seen Loki or Thor at all. What could they be off to? She wondered if maybe they were off planet.

On the eighth day of being a maid in Asgard, she had a surprise visitor as she was bringing a visitor in the castle food. The guard seemed to just appear as she rounded a corner.

"Should you be walking around alone?" The guard asked.

Cassie didn't stop to answer, making the
guard—who wasn't even guarding a room—follow her. "I am perfectly capable of protecting myself if need be."

"I don't doubt that, although you may have some trouble without your magic," the guard grinned, and Cassie stopped moving and turned to face him.

"What do you mean, 'My magic'?" She asked. She hasn't told anyone about her magic or even much about herself. How did the guard know? Did Odin tell him?

"Magic wielders can sense one another." The guard held up one hand, and small green sparks hovered above his palm.

Cassie gasped. Was having magic a common thing for guards? She focused her energy on 'scanning' him, making sure he wasn't tricking her, and frowned as she noticed something odd. The magic felt...familiar.

She smiled as she realized what felt familiar. "Loki?"

He smirked, "I was wondering how long it would take for you to sense me."

"Where have you been, you jerk?" Cassie shoved him lightly and continued to walk to her original destination.

Loki caught up with her quickly, still as a guard—probably because it would be a little odd for the prince to be following a maid—and apologized. "I apologize, Odin had sent Thor and I to help out with a war on a different planet."

"I guess that's a pretty good reason," Cassie mumbled and Loki chuckled.

"So whose maid have you been assigned to—or chosen?" He asked.

"Not sure," Cassie shrugged. "I haven't seen the king nor the queen to say anything, not that I even know."

Loki's small smile seemed to relax a little, but she didn't really notice. It seemed that the news calmed him down. "Odin does want to see you regarding that topic though."

"After I deliver the food," Cassie agreed, her mind racing about what she would say.

"I shall let him know." Loki disappeared in a fume of green smoke, and Cassie hurried to deliver the food.

A few minutes later, Cassie was led into the throne room by two guards who flanked her. She stopped in front of the throne at a respectable space, and curtsied. Odin banged his staff on the ground, and she took that as her cue to stand up. She mentally reminded herself to thank Dolores for her lesson about meeting with the king.

As she looked up, she could see Odin on his throne, with Queen Frigga on one side of him, and the two brothers on the other.

"Eight days ago, I said you would be allowed to choose to be a personal maid. I am a man of my word..." Cassie had to hold in a snort and she noticed Loki did too. "...so you are here to decide now. You may stay as you are now, a general maid, or pick a particular person."

Cassie gulped. She had thought about what she would say the entire walk there, but she was still nervous. She figured the best thing to do was to be a general maid. It wasn't bad, and it wasn't like she knew anyone except the royal family.

'I thank you for your options, but I would rather stay as a maid, Your Highness, thank you.' She repeated in her head. She needed to just say it. It felt like hours had passed as she hesitated, but it was likely just seconds.

She took a deep breath as she answered.

"I thank you for your options, but I would rather stay as a maid, Your Highness. Thank you." Is what she meant to say, but that is not what came out of her mouth.

"I would like to be Loki's maid."
