From the start, you had always been aware of your love for Dolores. It was undeniable with how much you adored her; you always noticed the little things about her. From how beautiful and round her eyes are, how curly her hair is and the way it moves when the wind blows, how she usually spoke in a whisper, soothing and gentle.

You never took a single moment with her for granted, especially because you were aware of the love she had for another. Dolores wasn't exactly someone who would just give up, you were sure she had cards up her sleeve no matter how impossible a situation could seem.

And her gift only helped her out, giving her leverage over other people. You found it amusing when she used it to her advantage, but you could also tell that she'd rather not have her gift with how much stress it brings her.

Being in love with someone who could hear everything meant you had to hide it well. You had learned to control your heartbeat around her and stop yourself from showing any signs of being flustered, such as your breath catching.

But the longer your feelings matured, the easier it came to you. In fact, it just became second nature to you now. "And if you just heard the way he proposed to her." Dolores speaks with a loving tone, intertwining her fingers as she remembers what she heard.

You smile as you roll your eyes at her. "Such a hopeless romantic." You tease. Dolores was always one to dream about the man of her dreams professing his love to her. She wouldn't even hold back as she told you about her dream wedding, and how many kids she'd want.

She holds your hand as she kneels, looking up at you with her beautiful doe eyes while she bats her eyelashes. "I never thought I'd find such a love so beautiful. And I don't ever want to lose what we have, so will you give me your forever? Be my wife amor..." She says then squeals quietly, pulling you into her arms as she spins you.

"I do." You say when she comes to stop, looking into her eyes with a playful grin sitting on your lips. You push your left hand closer to her, your other hand on your hip as you raise an eyebrow. "Now where's my ring?"

She laughs and moves away, grabbing a piece of paper from the pile sitting on your desk before getting seated. As you move closer to watch her, she abruptly stands up. Holding you by the shoulders, she pushes you until the back of your knees hit your bed, making you sit down. "No peeking."

You let out a snort as she has her back to you, watching her with an amused smile. After waiting in silence for a few minutes, she stands up, walking towards you with a paper heart ring in her hand.

Taking care of Antonio had its perks. The kid liked doing lots of several things, arts and crafts were one of them. "Tada! I've had some practice. I hope this will do for now, hermosa." She says then takes your left hand in hers, slipping the ring into your finger.

Unable to stop a smile from forming on your face, you wipe an invisible tear. "Don't worry Dol, I'd marry you with paper rings."

This kind of playful banter was frequent between the two of you. It of course had no meaning to Dolores, and although she wasn't aware, it would always bring butterflies to your stomach.

You didn't know how much longer you could keep up the cycle. Just like her, you wanted to fall in love with someone who could return your love. It just hurt you watching her fawn over a man who was already taken. She deserved proper love, one that didn't need to be questioned. Dolores deserved the world.

But a part of you also knew you couldn't stop loving her. The only person your heart had called for was her.

-

"What's wrong?" A girl with a red ribbon on her hair asked, approaching you slowly with a soft-spoken voice. It was just as comforting as the sound of the river flowing, a place you often went to when you needed peace.

Looking towards the girl with tears in your eyes, you recognize her as one of the Madrigal kids, the family that had been blessed with gifts and miracles. "I heard you crying." She whispers as she comes closer with a smile, slowly bringing her hand up to wipe your cheek from the tear that cascaded down.

"I'm alone... all alone." You whisper, your familia gone. Loneliness engulfed you, killing you on the inside as you saw all the families in town. They were all going about their day happily.

She lets out a gentle squeak as she pulls you into a hug, trying to at least absorb half of the pain away. "You're not alone. I'm with you. You don't have to cry all by yourself anymore."

-

Her gentleness that day had saved you. You couldn't see anyone else but her, she slowly brought light back into your life. She was the reason for your happiness, and you couldn't do anything else but try to support her.

After all, Mariano was the only one who made her eyes sparkle with so much affection and love. He was the only thing she could hear anymore.

"Oh wow. That-" she clears her throat as she looks away. "-that was so cute." She says, mumbling as her cheeks tint pink.

You look at her in confusion, thinking it was something new that she randomly heard. "Did you hear Mariano say something sweet or poetic again?"

She sighs as she turns to you, her lips pursed with her hands on her waist. "No you idiot, I meant what you said about the paper rings." She smiles then nods eagerly. "Now I have a new favorite for proposal lines."

You scoff at her. "What are you talking about? You already proposed to me, you have a fiancé now." You say as you wink at her playfully, making her shove you with a smile. "You gave me a ring to prove it!"

"Maybe in a million years."

"Maybe I'm willing to wait a million years."
