Refraining Oneself

I know in the past few chapters, Dolores revealed that Mariano was gonna propose, and that timeline in the movie is around May, bec of Toñito's bday. But I thought of it as her knowing Mariano's plans simply because he was looking for rings.

I wanted to explain because Isabela and Dol's birth month is August, which is still 9 months away from May. I like the facts accurate, so sue me ig HAHAHAHA jk jk.

"Hurry! Everyone's already preparing for her birthday, I wanna help!" One of the children shout at the others, running ahead in excitement and grabbing banners to help hang around town.

You smile as you prepare your small booth for the week, placing origami flowers around it in preparation for Feria de las Flores.

Isabela could easily grow them out, but you hoped she would appreciate the effort you put into folding each one. It was soon to be her special day after all, you wanted to at least do these little things for her.

You had gotten to know her more the last few weeks, simply because Dolores had started lessening her visits to the café. And as much as you pestered her as to why, she wouldn't spill.

Of course, you already had a kind of feeling, but Dolores of all people wouldn't avoid you simply because you like women, right?

Just as your thoughts wander more towards how much you missed her, there she was, walking alongside the man who owned her heart.

"Dolores, won't you even look my way?" You whisper, hoping she'd at least make a glance at you. As guilt crosses her features, she leads Mariano farther away.

Gritting your teeth, you start setting your espresso machine and cups around, making it as orderly as possible whilst seething amidst your preparations.

"Hola, I take it preparations are-" Isabela suddenly appears, a blooming smile on her lips as she leans against the booth. Her radiance resembled the sun, along with her glowing skin and cheerful tone, until it gets replaced with an expression of concern.

"Is something wrong?" She asks, her soft hands finding its way to your wrist, rubbing gently with her thumb in a soothing manner.

Isabela had a way of giving you comfort that was quite different from Dolores. When it was Dolores, there was always a feeling of solitude and peace, but always a boundary. But with Isabela, it somehow felt a bit more intimate.

You couldn't place what it was that made you feel that way, maybe it was the fact that Isabela was so affectionate to you despite being someone outside of the Madrigal family.

There was no feeling of walls, or fake personas. It was just Isabela, and you felt you didn't need to hold back at telling her anything.

But that couldn't be the case. You couldn't tell her about your worries that involved being in love with your best friend, who was in love with her soon to be fiancé. Even if Isabela didn't love him.

"Preparations are going perfect." You state lowly, a small smile appearing on your face, pushing your worries away. "Y'know I made these just for you, I'd hoped you would like them."

Isabela leans closer, a frown slowly forming. "You didn't answer my question." She states as a matter-of-factly.

You smirk, placing a hand on your hip proudly. "Practically, I did answer your question. Just not all of your questions."
