Lizzie's POV

I'm a literal track star.

Holy moly guacamole on a cracker Sam was running fast, but unfortunately for him, I am speed.

I ran for what was basically two million hours at the speed of light before smacking straight into a tree.

And now I have a bump on my head.

"I'm naming him Frederich." I announce to Sam in the lunchroom on Monday, lightly tapping my mini bump dude.

"He's an undercover criminal, but he's all cool about it." I continue to say when he nods along.

"Only his cousin Nancy knows, and she's secretly an FBI agent, but their cousin-ly bond is just too strong, so she doesn't rat him out. He's an expert bank robber but dabbles a bit in pickpocketing."

Sipping my chocolate milk I imagine my little bump man robbing banks.

What a baddie.

"Plot twist he's in love with Nancy's sister."

This seems to catch Sam's attention as he looks over at me and tilts his head. "You mean his other cousin?"

"Oh, I forgot that's how that works." I bite the inside of my lip, shaking my shoulders slightly in disgust.

Steering clear from unintentional incest.

"Well turns out Nancy's not actually his cousin and their whole lives are a lie, so it's okay."

"Oh okay." Sam answers and we both laugh, moving to a more relevant topic.

"What are you doing for extracurriculars this year?" I watch Sam push away the slimy school food and wrinkle my nose.

"My regular stuff I guess. Volunteer work and school newspaper." I reply whilst pushing away my own slimy food.

The milk being the only safe thing to drink here, I sip it slowly, savoring every last bit of chocolate goody-ness.

"And what about you?" I ask only for politeness. I know what he'll say.

"Volunteer work for college résumé, and then probably Drama. I don't know if I should go out this year, though. Anth-"

"-ony always ends up getting the lead anyway, and then he just likes to rub it in. I mean what's the point?"

I follow his words as I expect them in my head, having heard them every year. Anthony had made Sam so insecure by calling him terrible slurs and undermining his acting.

It's just terrible.

"Don't let him stop you, Sam. You always end up getting a role you play perfectly, anyway. Anthony's just jealous." I reassure him, patting his arm affectionately.

Sam just looks down at the table, exhaling deeply.

"How about something happier?" I suggest, attempting to cheer him up.

Taking his little head nod as a 'Yes amazing Lizzie, please, make my day like you always do', I scanned the room for something to tell him. Coming up short, I said the first thing that came to mind.

"Why can't you give Elsa a balloon?"

"Why." He responds, but it's less of an enthusiastic 'why' and more of a 'just tell me'.

"Because she'll let it go." I smile at the joke but shrink back a bit seeing Sam just as depressed.

I slide him an origami dog I secretly made in History class and remain quiet.

"Sometimes it's good to be sad Liz." Dad said, burying his head in his hands.

"I want you to be happy, though Daddy." I answer, tugging at the bottom of my favorite My Little Pony pajamas.

"Sometimes, we can't get what we want, honey." He pats my head, rising from the couch and going upstairs, leaving my tiny five year old brain conflicted.

I just wanted him to be happy.
