Chapter 3 - Heavy Rain

It's 12:55 in the morning. Bong Bong checked his watch then continued to skip stones from the shore. He watched and counted the number of times it skipped across the water.

1... 2... 3... 4...

He did it for a few more times till he heard footsteps approach behind him.

"Nandito na ako, Junior."

Bong Bong turned around. It was Leni.

He smiled in amusement upon seeing her. She was still wearing her silk night gown, with a red cardigan on top and some slip-on shoes. He could tell that she was in hurry just to get to him. He replied,

"Nice outfit. Red looks good on you."

Leni suddenly became conscious as Bong Bong looked her up and down. She crossed her arms in front of her and cleared her throat.

"Mag-uusap ba tayo o pagtatawanan mo lang yung suot ko?"

Bong Bong shrugged.

"That's up to you. Ano ba ang gusto mong pag-usapan?"

Leni looked around the area. They seem to be the only people out that late. The moon was full and bright above them. She took a deep breath and answered Bong Bong,

"Gusto ko pag-usapan yung nangyari satin that night..."

"What about it?"

"Meron ka bang ebidensya laban sakin?"

Confused, Bong Bong asked.

"Evidence? What do you mean?"

"I'm sure meron ka tinatagong recording or photo na pwede ko ikasira."

"You mean like a sex scandal?"

Flustered by his reply, Leni answered.

"Y- yes."

Bong Bong chuckled as he shook his head.

"We didn't even do that."

He continued to explain,

"And even if we did, ba't ko vi-videohan yung sarili ko na ginagawa yun? That would not just incriminate you but me as well."

Leni argued,

"You expect me to believe you? Pwede ka parin magkaroon ng voice recording. Pwede mo rin i-blur yung mukha mo sa video o i-crop ang isang photo para ako lang yung makita."

Bong Bong stared at her. A few seconds of silence passed between them till he replied,

"No... I suppose I don't expect you to believe me. What I do know is that I'm telling the truth."

Leni didn't know what to say next. Bong Bong threw one more rock across the water then spoke,

"If that's all, I'm leaving now."

Bong Bong started to walk away but Leni quickly grabbed his wrist.

"Saglit lang."

Bong Bong stopped and faced her. He took a step forward, closing the distance between them. It startled Leni but she didn't move. She felt her heart racing once again.

He spoke quietly as he looked into her eyes.

"What is it now?"

"Please, Bong Bong... G- gagawin ko, kahit ano. Ano bang gusto mo?"

Bong Bong scoffed.

"You're an interesting woman, you know that?"

Leni immediately regretted what she just said. She didn't know what else to say to make him stay. She was still doubtful but she was willing to swallow her pride. Bong Bong continued,

"Honestly? I'm not asking for it but if you want to - the least you could do is thank me."

"Thank you?"

"Yes. Don't you remember? I could have left you drunk in that parking lot and let you drive on your own... Pero hindi kita pinabayaan."

"Bakit? When you know you could have..."

Bong Bong was starting to get annoyed,

"You're really asking me why, Leni? Dahil yun yung tama. Do you think I'm heartless enough to let you drive yourself to death?"

"Pero you hate me." Leni retorted.

"What!? I NEVER said that. In fact, I never even said anything bad about you and you know it."

Leni knew that Bong Bong was right. He never did say anything bad against her but she always felt like he secretly hated her since they were rivals. Bong Bong continued on his argument,

"Stop projecting your feelings onto me. Hate me all you want, fine. I've been living with it all my life but do know that I got better things to do than hate back on other people, even you."

The atmosphere has gotten tense between them as the sky began to rumble, warning them of an incoming downpour. Leni kept her intense gaze on Bong Bong and challenged him,

"Kung ganon... Prove it."

"Fine."

Leni did not expect what was about to happen the next moment.

Time seemed to slow down as Bong Bong grabbed her face and kissed her.

Leni found herself frozen in shock at what was happening but for some reason, she didn't pull away from him.

As if on cue, heavy rain finally poured from the sky.

Bong Bong slowly took a step back and looked at Leni. He saw shock and confusion on her face but he was also certain that he made her blush. They were both speechless for a moment.

Bong Bong realized that she was a sight to behold amidst the pouring rain.

Suddenly, Leni turned her back on him and started to run back to her car.

She had no idea what just happened or why Bong Bong even did that. She didn't dare to look back. Her mind was filled with several thoughts and indescribable feelings towards him. She thought to herself,

Ano bang ginagawa mo sakin, Bong Bong?

Bong Bong arrived home soaking wet from the rain. He immediately took a warm shower, dressed-up, then settled into his bed. He could feel the exhaustion in his body but his mind kept him awake.

He thought about that night he spent with Leni... He also thought about how he kissed her a while ago in the heat of the moment.

Bong Bong's initial plan was just to mess with her and tease her in secret. However, he's starting to wonder if there was something more to that. He definitely felt something different in that kiss. He wondered,

What is it about you, Leni?

Bong Bong thought of her till his exhaustion took over and he eventually fell into a deep sleep.
