The pictures that had haunted me since hatching were crowding my vision more than ever before and my head throbbed with pain.  I jumped towards the pile of fighting dragons; Shrub had never been strong or a good fighter, so I needed to defend him. I opened my mouth and sprayed black venom towards Mother and then turned to Father, producing a flame that swallowed him whole.

I ran towards my brother, ignoring the blood that was spilling from the claw marks that were raked through his scales and held onto his talons.  His eyes were rapidly going blank and there was nothing I could do to help.  Shrub, the one dragon who cared about me, was gone.

I sang a song, a haunting melody that I didn't know I knew, a song that lives in every heart:

"Who cares if one more light goes out,

In the sky of a million stars,

It flickers, flickers,

Who cares if one more light goes out,

If a moment is all we are,

Or quicker, quicker,

Who cares if one more light goes out,

Well I do..."
