Seryu slowly opened her eyes, staring up at her darkened ceiling.
She groaned, flipping off the blankets covering her body and rolled out of bed, slowly rising to a stand.
Mornings have been rough lately, spending as much time as she is in one day doing something that's not relaxing.
She looked at herself in her full body mirror, and marvelled somewhat.
In the last month, she had spent more and more time gathering information on the Capital, the Empire, and not just information on this side.
Through Okami's help, she had met some people who'd give their own, unbiased information about a certain person, faction or the like, and had learned more and more the thing she was afraid of the most.
She was on the wrong side.
Everything, absolutely everything she's gathered that is credible says that the Empire is a rotten, dirty place under control by the Minister.
She had met the Minister before, along with the Emperor, and admittedly had some suspicions, but now she was certain that he's the reason the Empire is as bad as it is.
She had spent so much time consumed in training, missions and the like that she noticed she could use a touch up.
She let out a heavy sigh as she noticed how long her hair had become when not tied into a ponytail.
She would need to get a haircut soon.
She lifted it up, deciding to brush it out a bit before tying it up as per usual, and slipped her clothing and gear on. Koro hummed on the ground next to her, and she bent down, giving him a pet before attaching his harness to him.
I could use a walk. She thought, staring down at Koro as he wiggled about, a bit uncomfortable in the new harness she had gotten him.
"Caw!"
She flinched, and looked out to her window.
It was cracked slightly open, and standing atop the desk just in front of it was a Crow.
Seryu smiled slightly, still not used to this.
Mergel, an unbiased information broker that she's grown to rely on the most, sends messages through Crows.
So he had sent another message to me. She thought, walking up to the Crow and talking the small parchment wrapped around its leg, giving the animal a small pet before it flew off.
She opened the small letter.
Seryu, I sent you this letter to tell you some news, I've recently grown aware of a man who's in direct dealings with some of the Minister's followers, regarding the lives of Country girls, I wish for you to go and see them, as they are likely to not change behaviour should you inform them of your status as a Jaeger, you can see for yourself the despicable things they do. The residence is XXXXXXXX.
Mergel
She stared at the letter for some time, a bit hesitant on actually going.
She had asked him to do this, to send letters of places in the capital where extremely bad things have been happening, that have a link to the Minister, and Mergel had kept his promise.
Oh how that backfired on her.
She wasn't able to sleep right for a few days after visiting the first area Mergel had 'recommended.' A place where innocent people picked at random were taken and thrown into a ring where they had to fight Danger Beasts of all kinds in matches, for pure entertainment. She still remembered the screams of one woman in particular who had gotten the short end of the stick, ending up having to fight a lion-like male Danger Beast which was in heat.
