"Remus?" Sirius said quietly.

"Yes?" Remus answered.

"I'm scared."

The couple were standing, watching the protective barrier surround Hogwarts. Fred and George were to their right, Kingsley on the left. "Me too." Remus said after sighing. He took Sirius hand in his, hoping that after that night, he could still feel the warmth coming from his husband.

"This is really it. After all this time, it's come down to this." Sirius sighed.

"I just hope we avenge Lily and James tonight." Remus said.

"And Tonks."

"Yes, and Tonks."

"How lo-"

"Sirius, as much as I love hearing your voice, admittedly now isn't really the time. I'm too freaked out" Remus snapped.

"Sorry, I just ... all this talk sounds a bit like what people do when they know they're going to die."

"You never know though Rem. It's war, people die. That's what people do." Sirius said sadly.

Remus was about to say something, when suddenly, the barrier came under attack. Bright white lights flashed violent in their face, blinding them.

"Oh bollocks!" Sirius cried, shielding his eyes.

With one last bright red flash, the barrier eventually came apart, and the fight began.

To Sirius, fighting came naturally, it was like a dance. Remus wasn't as good as he used to be, but he was still alive, which in war means you're doing something right. Death Eater after Death Eater attacked them and those around. Already bodies were scattered on the floor, the good and the bad.

Sirius had been dueling two Death Eaters at once, when suddenly, the stone walls around them exploded, rock and dust showered them. When the dust cleared, Sirius tried to get his bearings, but something didn't seem right, he was without his partner.

"Remus!" He yelled into the dusty darkness which had now fallen.

"Here." A weak voice called to him.

Going in the direction, Sirius found Remus lying on the floor, bleeding heavily from a wound to his head. His breathing was sharp and shallow, another wound to his stomach, this time, it was fatal. A small line of blood dribble from the corner of his red lips as he coughed.

"Remus, no." Sirius moaned, rushing to him. He picked up Remus' body, cradling his face.

"I hope I don't look as bad as you." Remus laughed weakly. "I feel sick though."

"You're fine. It's a scratch." Sirius said.

"Am I going to die?" Remus asked, his eyes wide with sudden fear.

"No, no of course not."

"Sirius. Am I. going to .... die?"

"I don't know. Yes." Sirius cried.

"Please don't, I need you." Remus smiled weakly, bringing a hand up to Sirius'

face. He started to sing.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You never

know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."

As he sang, Bellatrix Lestrange appeared unnoticed behind them. She heard the weak singing and smiled; her dear cousin and werewolf husband, exactly who she was looking for to kill.

If Sirius had heard the end of the song, he would have kissed Remus and told him he loved him. But a blinding green light interrupted the song. Remus, beyond comprehending what had just happened, died a few moments later, thinking Sirius would live a full life with their son Regulus, but without him.
