I stood up abruptly. Totally forgetting about my book with fast strides, I advanced toward them.
"I'll explain, but now I have to speak urgently with my brother," Thor said, breathing heavily, not waiting for a response, he left in search of Loki.
Steve and I exchange worried looks
"Do you know what this is all about?" He asked
I bit my lip anxiously. I shook my head "No, but... I have an inkling feeling" I replied
"What do you mean by that?" Steve said, crossing his arms and looking at me seriously
I felt my heart beating faster, all kinds of thoughts invading my head, and I just couldn't shake the dread I was feeling. I took a breath, and shook my head, "Nothing, Steve, I just..." I sighed. "I'm probably worrying over nothing. I tend to overthink a lot" I smiled at him, "let's just wait until Thor tells us what happened, okay..." I said, sitting on the couch. Steve sighed and sat next to me by the look he gave me. I was sure he wasn't satisfied with my answer, but he didn't pry any further
______
"I think I heard Thor's voice," Sam said as he and Clint entered the common area a couple of minutes later
"Yes he was here, he is with Loki right now," I said stiffly
"About that... are we all just going to ignore that Loki was a cat for almost a week?" Clint declared. I laughed glad for the momentary distraction
"Why was he a cat in the first place?" Sam asked, furrowing his eyebrows
"He thought Stark wouldn't let him stay here" I explained
"So turning into a cat was his solution?" Clint asked with a tilt of his head, unimpressed
I giggled "No, I proposed that idea to him and it worked. no one suspected a thing!" I said proudly
"Well... Steve found out" Clint pointed out
Steve was about to replay when Loki and Thor joined the common area and dread quickly returned to me, at first glance, I noticed how the God of thunder was clean, and the wound on his cheek looked way better than before; after saying something to Loki, he quickly left in the direction of the kitchen, and from the corner of my eye, I watched Steve get up and follow him I turned to go after him when a call out of my name stopped me.
------------------
"What do you mean you have to leave?" I said as we walked out of the common area
"I know it's unexpected, but I promise you I'll explain everything to you when I return," Loki said, trying to sound convincing
"No, I want to know now" I demanded, halting my tracks. He stood silent. I groaned annoyed.
"Fine! If you don't want to tell me I'll ask Thor" I said with a glare, then turned to look for him. But he grabbed my arm to deter me.
"Why do you have to make this so difficult?" he grumbled, dropping my arm. I gave him an exasperated look and he sighed.
"There has been... a conflict in Asgard and the all-father has requested my presence back," He said, choosing his words carefully so as not to reveal much; I narrowed my eyes at him as I sensed he was omitting something.
"If you are not going to be completely honest, then this conversation it's pointless," I said, sternly, then left in a hurry in search of Thor. Loki groaned, running after me.
"Thor!!" I shouted as I got closer to the kitchen where he and Steve were conversing; he stopped what he was saying and glanced at me. I stopped running and opened my mouth to speak
"Thor, there you are-" I said out of breath, then I screeched "what are you- Loki drop me!" I said as he lifted me over his shoulders carrying me away. I tried to get free by trying to hit him; but he saw beforehand my intention and grabbed my hand, keeping it immobile.
"Lady y/n?" Thor said as he followed us. Loki sighed and halted, turning around. "What is happening," Thor asked, eyeing us with an arched eyebrow. I was going to answer, but Loki won me over it.
"Nothing to concern yourself with, brother, um.. we are just... Uh.. bonding." he said, flashing a smile. I scoffed. Loki pinched my arm. "Ow! You little-"
"Brother, put Lady y/n down," Thor said, slightly amused.
"Now, could anyone care to explain what is happening?" Thor let out once Loki put me on the floor
"Thor, what is going on. Why does Loki has to leave, and why did you arrived all blodied up?"
"Why haven't you told her?," Thor said, sending his brother a confused glance.
Loki pinched the bridge of his nose. "I didnt think it was necessary" he gritted out. Thor glared at him
"Is this about the aether?" I asked tentatively
Thor nodded, his head solemnly, "I gathered the aether as you suggested from the collector. I believe he alerted Thanos, because his minions attempted to collect the infinity stones that remain on Asgard, they stood no chance, of course, but the battle left a handful of wounded, The healers weren't enough, so I spent a while helping until the situation was bearable after that father ordered me to bring Loki back and in my haste, I had no time to clean myself up"
after hearing what had happened, I couldnt help but feel guilt
"It wasn't your fault" Loki steeped in, probably perciving what was going on in my mind.
"Huh, but it was if I didn't-" Loki shook his head and interrupted me "This is why I didn't wanted to tell you" he sighed "it wasn't your fault you couldn't possibly have known that would happen, you were-"
"That is the problem!" I said harsh, cutting him off "that wasn't supposed to happen. I don't know what is going to occur anymore, at least not for certain"
