Chapter 6: Distractions

I got a mouthful from my mother.. I mean, pinagsabihan ako ni mama sa nangyari kaya nagkulong ako ngayon sa kwarto at inedit ang cover namin ng cool kids. Of course, I was distracted.

Parang sirang plaka kasi kung mag-replay ang kissing scene sa hukay. I still feel na nakalapat ang labi niya sa labi ko at mainit parin ang mukha ko. Siguro nga ito ang effect ng first kiss sa mga tao, hindi matanggal sa utak ko eh...

I shook my head and plug my earphones and blast my music. I need to try editing our cover now, and thinking about Jared isn't helping.

Hindi naman ako ganito noong crush ko siya ah... Parang bawat araw na kasama ko siya ay lumalalim ang feelings ko sa kanya. This is frustrating.

Biglang tumunog ang Holiday by GreenDay, may tumatawag pala.

I set my earphones hanging on my shoulders and answer Tris's call.

"Hello? " I press the answer button.

"Clare-y!" she cheers. "Kamusta ang band practice?"

"Mabuti... Nag-eedit ako ng cover namin. Bakit ka pala napatawag Tris?" tumawa ako at sumandal sa wall at pinatong ang feet ko sa edge ng bed.

"Wala akong magawa, I'm staying at my Mom's house in the province for the long weekend eh. " she whines and I roll my eyes so hard, it hurts.

"It's not that bad.. " I say, rubbing my eyes. "At least you're going somewhere, ako stay-cation sa bahay."

"Mabuti sayo, ngayon, I have to put up with my mom's BS ugh."

She groans and I sigh in response.

"Give your mom a chance, Tris. I know you only saw her in a quarter of your life, but she's your mom. At least act civil and set things sa kanya, maybe get Tristan to help you if you must. But if you don't, distract yourself. " I advised to her.

"Okay." she answers coldly, but I shrugged it off when she cleared her throat.

"So how's the editing going? At ang band practice, ano ang kakantahin niyo sa contest? Sa August na, diba? "

I decided to multitask and put her on speaker and edit the footage while at it. "Wala pang desisyon, but I think something from Rihanna or Little Mix, something that will complement Jeanna's voice, she's the lead singer of the band after all... And the cover will be up in an hour or so. "

"Nice... Sige I have to go, mom is calling me. " she groans and I hang up.

Oa lang...

Lumipas ang long weekend like a blur. I wrote multiple chapters sa story ko, I was able to post the cover on youtube and guess what? We had gained 400 subscribers with our Toxic acoustic cover from last summer.

Band meetings are held every Monday afternoon at ate AJ's house after class since we only get the music room during Thursdays. We usually go after class, but we had no class so we get an early start.

May isang malaking bowl ng mallows sa harap namin at pinapakita ko ang progress ng Youtube channel namin. Of course they were happy that we're almost five thousand subs now so we're reading the comments for new ideas.

"Marami ang gustong i-cover natin ang songs ng FOB." point out ni Jeanna.

"Look, may nag-offer ng record deal!" Louisse adds.

"We don't need that, afterall, I think it's not the right time for that. " sabi ni AJ and we all agreed at nagscroll down pa ako.

"Uyy Szane, diba malapit lang bahay mo kay Jared?" tanong ko sa kaibigan ko.

"Oo... Wait, bakit pala? Pupuntahan mo sa bahay niya noh?" she wiggles her eyebrows suggestively at umiling nalang ako and I kept scrolling.

"Holy shizz!" I jump. "AmazingPhil said he loves the cover and the guitarist looks cool... Uyyy ate AJ!"

"Hmm, maybe that's why sumikat ang cover. " Jeanna looks at AJ slyly. "And you said wala kang pag-asa sa kanya, Ariadne. Look at that!"

"Yeah Ate! Phil likes you!!! Phiww-hmmp!" Pinasak ni AJ ang handful of marshmallow sa bibig ko kaya natigilan ako.

"Tigil na please!" sabi niya na namumula. "Pasalamatan mo na lang Clare and we'll move on."

"Okayy!" I cheer with the mouth full of mallows.

I send the reply and minutes later while prepping to record an acoustic cover, my phone vibrates but I ignored it. Probs a group text or twitter notification, but I hope its not a message from my mom.

"I'm guessing we need to cover the most popular songs now.." Jeanna says. "Royals seemed to be a great song to begin with..."

"Not a fan of Lorde, but gusto kong i-cover natin iyon.. Maraming ang magugustuhan diyan.." I shrugged as I grabbed my bass and playing the intro of the song.

"So I was thinking the first line can be sun by Jeanna, then Clare, then we all harmonize at the chorus..." While ate AJ speaks, nagvibrate na naman ang phone ko kaya I secretly peeked to see a twitter follow and DM from Phil.

I lock it and continue the practice. Sure, I am super excited, but I know what he's up to. He maybe trying to find ate AJ. I'll try to help them out.

"Okay, so do we record now?" Szane asks. "At next time, 5SOS naman ang i-cover natin please?"

"Of course we should! We definitely should!" I cheer, playing my bass.

I'm certain that I can help ate AJ be happy once and for all, even if it means that I'll have to lie to her and befriend Phil. I think I could do that.
