Topnotcher

Do you know her?
Of course you do.
She’s a topnotcher, isn’t she?
Well, it’s obvious.

At school, you see her smile.
You heard her laughs too— so loud!
All right! She’s happy, really?
Well, those smiles and laughs are fake.

How ‘bout in their home?
Home? She doesn’t have that.
The house maybe, yes.
But home? She seems not included.

Well... wait, let me tell you more.
Her family is always proud of her.
Same with those who really love her.
Yet, she still feels no one loves her.

There’s chaos in her mind!
No one seems to notice it
for people believe she can handle it all.
She’s a topnotcher, isn’t she?

But let me tell you her tragic story,
a story that she keeps for a long time.
Let’s start when she was 8 years old,
she was in grade 3 that time.

She was walking home that afternoon
when someone grabbed her hand.
She wanted to scream but it was too late,
her mouth was already covered.

She was almost got raped that time
but luckily she managed to escape.
Well, a boy older than her helped her
and it was her brother who’s now dead.

She blames herself for what happened.
She hates seeing her family in grief.
She wanted to speak but she couldn’t.
She tried but no one wanted to listen.

No one seems to notice her scars too.
The scars were caused by some of her schoolmates.
Well, maybe she’s just good at lying
by telling it was just an accident.

Now, she graduated high school
and of course she’s the valedictorian.
Sad to say, she’s not fully happy with it.
So she did something people didn’t expect.

She went into her room and locked it.
It is where she hanged herself.
Yeah, she ended her life using a rope.
She leaves a note saying, “Lower your expectations!”
