I got maybe ten feet into the stables. The patrol board and the horse stalls were just in my sights when I heard someone sputter out some form of a sentence before I was abruptly spun around and facing the front doors again.

"No. Nope." Clay shook his head as he pushed me with his clipboard under his arm. "Goodbye, you're not allowed here."

"Clay! Come on, man!" I begged as I tried to twist back around under his arm, but he was prepared for anything I would try. "I have a job to do."

Clay let out a sarcastic laugh, "Yeah, and so do I. Keeping your dumbass alive." He gave me one final push to get me over the threshold of the stables, waving at me as I whipped back around, "So, go home and sleep or something."

"Clay-" I tried to speak again but he just shut me down while all jumping in front of me each time I tried to dart around him.

"No." He said sternly as he tossed his clipboard over to Nick who was just watching from the sidelines with his arms over his chest.

Nick just raised his eyebrows as he shook his head at the both of us, "Dude, she's not going to listen."

I tried to fake Clay out, but he just grabbed me by the neckline of my crew neck and threw me back outside like he just tossed a kitten out by the back of their scruff. Clay huffed and stepped in front of me again when I immediately tried again, "How did you even let her get this far?"

"She's short. She can slip through places. And not to mention, extremely stubborn." Nick said as I threw him the finger while I tried to duck between Clay's skinny ass legs, but to no avail as Clay kneed me lightly in the shoulder, resulting in me staggering just enough for him to grab the stable door and slide it shut right in my face.

"Clay!" I yelled as the door clicked shut and heard the sound of a lock not a second later.

"Bye Kate! See you around noon!" Clay's muffled words came through the door.

"Fuck you, guys!" I kicked the door which made the whole thing shudder and wobble on the tracks.

"I'll see you later, babe! I'll give Kage a sugar cube for you!" Nick yelled this time.

Accepting defeat, I spoke quietly with a sigh and my head bowed, "Thank you..."

"You're welcome," Nick spoke back just as softly. He sounded guilty but he knew better than to go against Phil and Clay's orders and I don't blame him.

"Stay safe, guys. I'll see ya," and with that, I walked away without another word.

Pulling the hair tie from my hair to let my ponytail down as I made my way back down main street towards the town square, I shook my head out and shoved my hands into my pockets.

I probably should go back to sleep. I slept so little last night after all the shit that went down yesterday. I most likely still need a couple more hours, but I didn't want to risk the chance of getting nightmares from sleeping alone.

There had to be something productive I could do.

Patrols were out of the question. I was physically locked out from the stables. I couldn't even see my horse, even after I hadn't ridden her in over a week. Hopefully Alex rode her a couple times last week.

Practicing some archery at the range was an option. Who am I kidding? I would get bored after only an hour since I would be there by myself.

Read a book? I got plenty of books on my to-be-read shelf and I know there's plenty of... entertaining books under a multitude of genres in there but reading a spicy book wouldn't really be productive though.
