"-Steve?"

"Hm?" You two sat again in the dark, a different kind of forest circling. Birch with some oak mixed in. Steve sat leaning against the stump of a tree which had been cut a long..long time ago... It had been a long day, especially for your companion. You even had to carry him on your back for the final stretch! He needed some sleep...and yet he was determined to stay up with you...

"I...am wondering if you know anything about why Herobrine is so..well..evil!" You sat holding your knees to your chest and rocking slowly. It was about that time of night when you were sure Herobrine was eagerly waiting for you over in dream land. It scared you to think you would be knowingly letting him scar up your body more.. Steve meanwhile lifted a hand to his chin as he thought, dark bags under his eyes making it clear how tired he was. It was you who had been entrusted with hunting down dinner tonight! Normally, the other would insist to do that himself to help boost his little pride while around you.

"Truth is... I don't think anyone really knows.. not even Notch!" He chuckled, making you sigh a little, feeling defeated somehow. "However..." You rose your head again. "There are a lot of different legends about him. I both heard and read a lot of them back when I was trying to find a way to destroy him... Sad thing is not a single one lines up with another, delving moreso into fantasy than fact! However, there are some bits and pieces which typically remain consistent.."

"...Oh?" Leaning forward a little.

"Yeah... In almost all of them, the mythos agree he was the brother, or at least a deity of the same status, to Notch. Many also say that he was once mostly peaceful as well in his early years. A few say he was evil from the start, but the majority just claim that at worst he was a bit of a troublemaker and nothing else." You rested your arms on your knees and your chin on them as you listened intently. "But then, apparently he grew bored or something and started killing for the fun of it. It was a downward spiral from there. The legends vary so much after that point, it is hard to say what all happened... But apparently Notch used to banish Herobrine to the Nether quite often, only for the demon to drawl back out a couple hundred or so years later each time... I would assume, by looking around now, that both brothers have mellowed down a lot more and simply leave the other to their own devices..."

"Hm.. Yeah..." You crossed your legs instead, staring at the grass again as you plucked blade after blade slowly. Steve's head drifted to nearly land on his shoulder.. -jerking it up last second. "Did...Herobrine ever mention his past around you...?"

"If he ever did, I likely forgot. Heh. Most of my past with him is a blur."

"Ah..."

"But it's...odd." Catching your attention again. "I think the legends about him killing out of boredom are actually true, but, knowing him, I think it's a little..deeper than that..."

"Oh..?"

"Yeah, twisted as it may sound...I think he's addicted..in a way." Your eyes widened slightly. "Yh-yeah.. He always spoke of torturing and killing not like something he did simply for fun, but instead as something he needed to do...as if seeing others suffer was his food or something!"

"Ack.."

"Yep... I tried to save a few of the people he dragged in..." A deep, drawn out sigh. "..It never ended well. Apparently, though, while I was around, his killings lessened, so I hope my torment was at least able to save a few lives... Gotta think on the bright side..right?" The other weakly smiled your way. You faked a small grin back. "Yeah, I know it's stupid.. That's how I kept myself sane at the time, though, so...yeah." His chin dropped, beginning to brush his hands through the course, itchy grass.
