(^ heck, Twisted's getting up there in reads! Now it's up against Esther for the higher slot! Who will win? The darkest fic or the second lightest fic?
We organize our fics by reads, btw, so the homepage is more like a leaderboard, and everyone's competing to reach the top! XD
Saying that, I just realized Esther just passed Ablaze. Oops. So it'll be the two darkest fics then competing. Ablaze and Twisted. Lul)

(I just realized... If I see my books as my children...and said books' most dedicated fans as their children...does that make you guys my grandkids?
AM I A GRANDMA!?! XD)

This city was a WHOLE new world! Technology beyond the likes of anything you had ever seen before filled the streets! No longer were horses needed for transportation. Rather, self driving buggies were the norm. The smoothly paved roads were filled with beeping and honking. Instead of the small town shop owners standing outside their stores to advertise like what you were used to, massive signs and billboards advertised all kinds of different things! There were thousands of new smells, hundreds of new colors, and a butt load of new trinkets and gadgets to gape at!

Yes, it took you a whole day just to adjust to the city. All was done wearing an old, warn brown cloak and sunglasses. Not suspicious at all. You spent the night in an empty trash can, as all first time guests do, and by morning were up and early. Finally, you were aquatinted well enough to this new world's bizarre wonders to get on with your plan.

You started nice and easy by asking around where to go for missing people cases. Though you were given many suspicious looks, eventually, you were pointed in the direction of a local law enforcement station. You simply strolled into the offices with confidence, spying right away a large billboard up on one of the walls featuring a large list of missing people. You studied all of the faces closely, looking for a pattern.

An officer who had been previously patrolling the offices casually with a cup of coffee in one hand noticed you standing so still in the lobby and made his way to you calmly.

"Sad, aye?" He stood at your right. The man had fluffy brown hair which was all slicked back save for a few strands on the very top of his head. He sipped his coffee slowly. You peered his way, wondering why he of all people wasn't suspicious. All the rest of humanity were. You turned again to the wall of faces, nodding stiffly. "Oh- Forgot to remove this fellow from the board." The officer chuckled awkwardly. His free hand extended, carefully prying off the picture of a young, attractive man with monolid eyes and dark, jet black hair. He stood out a little from the rest, being of good build and youthful appearance.

"...You guys found him?"

"Dead." The officer grunted. "Found 'im just a couple days ago in some random alley... Poor guy... Looked like he'd been cut to pieces before finally dying." He mumbled into his cup. Your eyes widened.

"Wait, what?!.. Do- do you know who did it?!...or where he was taken to?!"

"No... Sadly, we have no idea what happened. Vanished for about a week and came back like this!.. The life of fighting crime and all just ain't fair. I always saw myself as a crime fighting genius when I was younger, able to solve any case; but...alas, here I am stuck doing paperwork as dozens lose their lives to common thieves." Sighing, the man took another sip from his cup. The potent odor from such a caffeinated drink was certainly one you were not used to.

"...What's your name, by the way?"

"Larry." The man mumbled from his mug. "However, most of the guys 'round here just call me Lazy Barry... Long story."
