Forger residence. The night before.
"Hey, Loid," she inquired, stepping out of the bathroom in a large black t-shirt. Loid had his limbs splayed on the bed, as usual, with a new book in his hands and minimalist glasses framing his face.
Y/n admired the sight as she tip-toed over to her own side of the bed. She liked the way that during bedtime, she got to see this softer side to Loid. They were both tired, and had no desire to put up boundaries anymore. Both of them reverted to their most comfortable versions of themselves; it was no surprise that the night became such an innocently intimate time for the two of them to share.
She took a mental note of the book he selected for today: Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human. She reminisced on a time where she'd ponder upon whether the experiences she's had made her exactly that—no longer human. But as she slipped her legs in between silky sheets and instinctively desired to bask in the presence of Loid, she knew that couldn't be true. Everything she's ever felt in the time she spent with Loid was a perpetual indicator that she, in fact, was still human.
"Yes?" He responded reluctantly, hardly wanting to rip his focus from the tasteful words printed on delicate paper. As much as the story enticed him, the soothing sound of her voice at the end of the day was exactly what he needed. He knew this made him human too; the way he'd cling onto each of her words and desperately crave the next was only primal. Given that he was no longer interested in denying the fact that he loved her, he had every intention of giving into this urge to listen to her voice. It washed over him like a warm steam and cleansed him of his impurities, inside and out.
"You know how we're, like married..." please, please say one more word. Finish that sentence. Say something else. "...Right?"
It didn't matter that her question was absolutely ridiculous. It almost didn't even process in his head what she was trying to say because all he could fixate on was how silky her voice sounded.
"Yeah..." he said, focusing on a hundred things at once. This book... the way his glasses felt on his nose, his ears... her, she was on his left, and oh, my god he needed to clear his head now.
Y/n watched as he snapped the book shut, barely caring to mark where he left off. Maybe, she thought, his impeccable memory took the task of a bookmark for him. What a luxury, to not have to rely on a bookmark to tell you where you left off.
"Well," she continued, raising the pitch of her voice at the end of the syllable. "I think it would do us well if we got to know each other more."
Loid's eyebrow perked up at the thought as he proceeded to pinch the bridge of his glasses and remove them.
He had to admit, the idea of getting to know her was foreign. He couldn't remember the last time he cared to know more about someone for his own enjoyment and desire to build a deeper connection. To add to his newfound state of perplexion, he secretly hoped that she wouldn't ask about his past again. He hated to admit it, but he'd often try to brush it off. It wasn't him anymore.
"Get to know each other more," he echoed. "Get to know each other more, how?"
She was completely comfortable under the covers at this point; she laid on her back, staring at the bare ceiling as very few thoughts lingered in her head. Getting to know each other was her idea, sure, but she didn't exactly think it through yet. She too lacked experience when it came to actually learning about someone through a conversation, so when seconds had passed and she worried about the window of opportunity to respond passing, she blurted out the first thing on her mind.
"What's your favorite color?"
Colors are pretty rudimentary, right? Everyone's gotta have one. She liked to think she'd be able to guess what he'd say, but in reality, the reason why she even chose to ask that question was because she couldn't formulate an educated guess to mentally bet on.
