My Worth
By vallwrites

~

The love I held in my heart for you
ran too deep.
It was blocking me from seeing all of your flaws,
causing me to ignore the pain you would inflict on me.
So many months went by,
with you slowly drifting from me,
ignoring me,
taking me for granted.
You changed so quickly,
it felt like whiplash.
One minute I was your everything,
you would walk miles just to meet me
no matter the weather.
You would bring me a mountain of snacks for us to share,
you wouldn't make me feel worthless
or bad.
But then came the time where I would beg you to get off your video game.
Five more minutes,
you said.
But if it was five more minutes,
why was I laying alone in your bed for three hours, wondering what I was doing wrong,
wondering where that love had gone?
I would waste all my free time on you,
but you'd be too interested in your phone,
you wouldn't allow me to speak my mind and tell you that it wasn't fair, because in your mind I was overreacting.
There was no more effort on your side anymore,
you just believed that I would always be yours and would stay with you no matter what.
But I proved you wrong when I packed my bags and left,
because I finally realised my worth.
I didn't deserve to receive all of your moodiness instead of your love,
I didn't deserve to be ignored for the sake of a video game,
I didn't deserve to be treated like I was nothing,
like my gifts weren't enough for you,
like I wasn't enough for you.
So, no,
I will not continue to feel like a burden,
this time
I'm putting myself first.
