When Rin heard you whimpering his name so pitifully, he assumed that the pain of your burns had finally gotten to you.

It was a fair assumption, especially considering the heat he had used for your most recent wounds, but Rin still couldn't help but be surprised. You had held out for so long now, telling him to go fuck himself even through your tears. So many times Rin had told you that all of it—all of your pain, all of your punishments—could be over if you just gave in, and never once before had you accepted his offer.

And as much as Rin loved that fire in you, there were times where he wished you would just submit already. He just wanted to hold you without you clawing at him, wanted to kiss you without you trying to bite off his tongue. As Rin's bitterness of having you so close and yet still not really having you grew, so did his punishments, both in degree and in frequency. But if your crying out for him was any sign, Rin hoped that you had finally learned your place beneath him.

"For a second there," Rin purred as he dug through his jean pockets for the key to the closet where you had been shoved in, "it almost sounded like you were calling for me, darling. But I must be going crazy, right? I mean, you've told me so many times by now that you'd rather die than be near me. You want me to just walk away, darling?"

"Please, Rin," came your voice, even sweeter than usual now that you were pleading with him. "Please don't."

"I don't know, why should I when you've been such a harsh little thing to me?"

"I'm sorry, Rin. I—I'm so sorry."

"What does your sorry do for me, darling?"

"I—" you began, still unsure of what you were about to say. "I'll be better. I promise. Just please, Rin, please don't leave me alone."

"Aw, darling, you know I can't say no to you when you talk like that," Rin sighed exaggeratedly, unlocking the closet door and roughly pushing it open so that it knocked against the wall with a loud slam.

Smirking at the way you flinched at the noise, Rin kneeled down in front of you, more than ready to taste the victory he had spent so long fighting with you for. His searing blue eyes were glued to your most recent burns, the ones Rin believed to have finally been your breaking point. They looked so beautiful against your soft skin, covering your collarbone with his name, to remind everyone, including you, of just who you belonged to.

But even as Rin brushed his fingertips against his mark of ownership, he couldn't help but notice that your eyes were not on him as they should have been.

His smirk twisting into a frown, Rin saw that it was not even your newest present that held your attention or caused the wild fear in your eyes, and he followed your gaze down to your hand. When he had shoved you into the closet, Rin had handcuffed you to a small bit of exposed pipe in the wall, having had learned the hard way not to leave you free to jump him when he eventually let you out. It was not the handcuffs themselves that had you so fearful at though, he quickly realized, but what they had trapped you so close to.

"Oh, darling," Rin tutted, "is this what got you so scared? A big, nasty spider?" Not waiting for an answer, Rin scooped up the spider that was resting on the pipe you were cuffed to, cupping it in his hand. You couldn't help but shudder at the sight of someone holding a spider so unabashedly, trying unsuccessfully to muffle you whimper when the spider began to move around Rin's palm with its eerie crawl.

"After everything i've done, this is what gets you to realize you need me? You're that afraid of spiders?" he chuckled, shaking his head in bewildered amusement. This time, apparently, Rin really wanted an answer, for when you didn't respond, he brought his hand up to your face, until the spider was only an inch from your eyes. Flattening yourself as best you could against the wall, you forced yourself to speak.

"Yes, I am!" you said, not daring to look away no matter how much you wanted to. "I've always been scared of spiders."

"Well then," Rin grinned, relishing the sight of you so timid before him, "it's a good thing that you've got me here to protect you."

           Glancing away, you nodded.

"Hey," Rin said, suddenly grabbing your chin with his free hand and forcing you to stare at both him and the spider, "I think I deserve a 'thank you' for that, I want to hear you say: Rin, thank you so much for protecting me."

"R—Rin, thank you so much for protecting me."

"I'm too weak to protect myself," he continued, grinning from ear to ear "which is just one reason why I need you."

"I'm too weak to protect myself," you repeated back to him, "which is just one reason why I need you."

"See, darling? Was that so hard?"

With your hands still trembling at the creature Rin held, you shook your head in resigned agreement, more than ready to get the spider out of your face forever. Rin was quick to oblige, placing the nasty creature on the filthy ground and stomping it to death. As soon as it was gone, your head fell against Rin's chest in relief, causing his smirk to return, though it was helped along by the echo of your sweet words. Sure, you had only said them because you were scared, but Rin knew that once you said them enough, you would realize just how true they were—how much you needed him. And he was sure he could find more spiders to help you along.
