𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇,

It was a pleasure meeting you the other day, although you did end up bumping into me. (No hard feelings). I found it amusing, and I hope you did too.

This morning I was with my tutor, Mr Brooke, and I just happened to see you and your lovely sisters and mother carrying baskets outside. At first, I was confused, but then Mr Brooke informed me you were taking your breakfast to give to someone else.

So I thought to ask my grandfather to send you some seeing as you were such kind souls and I could not bear to see you all hungry.

I hope you didn't mind, I thought it would've been a nice gesture. However, there is a reason why I addressed this letter to you personally.

While I was looking at all of you, I couldn't help but admire your beautiful twirls in the snow. And I was wondering if you have taken or do take dance lessons?

Yours sincerely,

Laurie

As soon as Cora finished reading the letter, she became flushed and quickly put the letter away. "Marmee look! Cora's gone all red," Amy squealed. "That is so romantic!"

"What a gentleman he is," Meg whispered, "Strange how he wrote the letter to only you, though."

"Weren't you listening, Meg? He said he personally addressed the letter to our dear Cora because he wanted to ask her a question and compliment her," Jo said, rolling her eyes at the letter.

"Is Jo jealous?" Amy asked Meg in a whisper that Jo heard, since Amy wasn't very quiet. "I am not jealous!" She defended with a scoff.

"Are you going to write him back?" Beth asked quietly.

Cora, still in shock from the letter, nodded her head slowly. "I think I shall," She said. "Make sure to thank him for this delightful breakfast," Marmee smiled, thinking the Laurence boy was sweet.

"Oh! Can I add a personalised message?" Amy pleaded, tugging on her sister's arm. "Why on earth do you want to write a personalised message for, Amy?" Cora asked, raising her eyebrows.

"Because I want to ask him something!" "Why not write a letter yourself?" Meg suggested. "He didn't write one to me, so why should I bother writing one to him?" Amy huffed with a frown.

"He doesn't even know you, Amy," Jo scoffed, rolling her eyes once more. "And he knows you?" "No! But I do propose we make friends with him!"

The March sisters continued arguing about Laurie, and Cora quietly slipped away and ran upstairs to hide the letter away. Why did Laurie write to her just to ask if she took dance lessons? It seemed a bit strange. But nonetheless, she would write back later that day.

Back downstairs, Marmee and Hannah were having a quiet conversation together, speaking about the letter.

"What a strange boy," Hannah spoke, "I think it was rather kind of him," Marmee said with a smile. Hannah just sighed and turned away to call the girls to eat.

After the March family had finished eating, Marmee had told them she had a little surprise for them.

So patiently, the five sisters waited until their mother came down the stairs with a letter in hand.

"What is it, Marmee?" Cora asked curiously, "Who's it from?" Amy inquired.

"It's a letter from father!" Beth gasped, running up to Marmee, so she could sit next to her and read it.

The four other girls did the same, overjoyed to finally hear from their father with Jo sitting at the back behind Marmee, Beth leaning on Marmee with Amy laying on her and Meg leaning on her shoulder while Cora lay on Meg's shoulder with her arm wrapped around her.

"Jo sits in the back, so we don't see her cry," Amy stated with a grin, but then got smacked by Jo's hand and let out a cry. "So what if I do?" Jo asked, scowling at Amy.

"Will he be coming home?" Beth asked, "He'll stay and work faithfully as long as he can," Marmee answered sadly. "We won't ask for him to come back a minute sooner than he can be spared."

As each girl listened intently to the letter, they grew sad as they mussed their father dearly and wished he was there with them. Cora couldn't help but let a tear fall down her face, which Meg softly wiped it off with her hand, hugging her tighter.

After everyone went to sleep, Cora quietly climbed downstairs and took out a quill, a piece of parchment and ink. She started writing her reply to Laurie's letter, but as she was just about to finish it, she heard footsteps.

She turned around and saw Beth standing on the staircase watching her. "What are you doing up so late, Beth?" Cora asked, shining her candle, so she could see Beth's face clearer.

"I could ask you the same thing," Beth responded, walking down all the stairs and coming to sit next to Cora.

"I'm writing the letter to Laurie," Cora spoke after a few seconds. "What are you going to say?"

"I'm going to thank him first, and then ask him a question of my own," Cora answered with a smile. "So it's going to be this ongoing affair?" Beth asked mischievously.

Cora nudged Beth and let out a quiet laugh, "When you say it like that, it sounds weird."

"But I was right, wasn't I?" Cora paused for a few seconds, thinking about her answer. "Unless he decides to answer in person, then yes."

"Do you still like him then?" Beth asked kindly, trying not to poke fun at her sister. "No," Cora denied, shaking her head.

"Although he has become prettier since the last time I saw him-" "I think you like him," Beth giggled, laying her head on Cora's shoulder.

"I'm merely just complimenting his looks, Bethy," Cora smiled, finishing off her letter.

"Just like he complimented your dancing?"

"Go to sleep, Beth!"
