Looking around the campus full of people. I let out a deep breath that I didn't even realize I was holding in before stepping out of my Jeep.
Nervous would be an understatement right now.
Mentally I've been preparing herself for this very day every since I got my acceptance letter over 7 months ago & now that it's finally move in day, a little part of me is scared.
Scared on being on my own and away from my parents.
Scared but ready to see what all college has to offer.
"Destiny." I heard my mom call out, pulling me out of my thoughts
"Ma'am." I responded, turning all my attention towards her
"You can go ahead & check in while I wait for your father to pull up with the rest of your things." She said, pulling her phone from her purse
"Okay, l'll be right back." I told her, walking off towards one of the registration tables
"Hey, first & last name please?." The girl, who's name tag read Mariah asked once I made it to the front, after standing in line for almost 30 minutes
"Destiny Bailey."
"Des... Destiny Bailey." She said scanning over a piece of paper "Yup.. Destiny Bailey, right here.. okay Destiny, you'll be staying in panther suites, Chalynn here will show you to your building." She said pointing to a girl who was standing off on the side "Once there you will need your panther paw student ID card to check in & get your keys. Some rolling carts are there to make moving a little easier, take as many as you like. Also there are some guys available to help with moving. Any questions you or your parents may have Chalynn will be happy to answer them for you & lastly Welcome to Atlanta A&T girl." Mariah said, sending me a warm smile
"Thank you so much." I said smiling back at her
"Nervous?" The girl Chalynn asked as we now searched the campus for my parents
"It's all over my face huh?" I asked her
"Just a little.." She laughed "But believe me you'll be fine. I was you two years ago."
"Yeah.?! How long did it take you to adjust?"
"A couple days. Hardest part to cope with was definitely being away from my momma for the first time. I'm a Momma's girl."
"So am I. Momma & daddy's girl.. you know anything about panther suites?"
"One of the best Freshman dorms there is."
"You lived there your freshman year?" I asked her
"I lived in panther village aka "The Quad" Got the full freshman A&T experience over there, hate they closed down for renovations this semester because l'll tell any incoming freshman to choose "the quad" .. but panther suites is the next best thing."
