I am the white chrysanthemum on a planet full of marigolds,
I bloomed too fast,
I was never meant to last,
But I survived fifteen springs,
And all that time, I never heard a hummingbird's flapping wings.

They look at me and don't understand,
They're afraid of my enthusiasm,
But then they ask me why I curl up in the corner of the room,
They're terrified of my fumes,
But then they ask me why I don't stand up from my tomb.

Whenever I start counting my blessings,
They start coming at me with their 'pep talks',
They never understand that I don't need one,
I just need some peace and late night walks,
I just want to remember the happy days in the sun.

All of my faults and flaws and insecurities
Keep crawling up at me,
All of the negativities and infidelities
Weaving into webs in my head,
I am stuck inside the trap I have created.

I am trying to find the key to the lock of my cage,
It seems that  I have dropped it into the ocean,
So now I am drowning with the waves the waters engage,
I am trying to find the magic potion
That opens my book and flips it to the sixteenth page.
