I told Andrew to get me all the possible informations about Carl Pierce ,  Eda's father , the man's been in my mind for three days , ever since our hunting trip

He shot Luca 's man and killed him in cold blood , he hid the body but I don't know if he really called an ambulance , wasn't he worried about the fact I witnessed everything ?

Not that it mattered of course but still

I was sitting in my office going through some files until Andrew knocked before entering
; " anything ?" I asked ; " couple of things really , look .." he handed me a file that contained few informations about Carl

" it appears that the name Carl Pierce was registered in the records of the states only 22 years ago , he made a new identity, a passport , a license, everything with that name " Andrew stated as i looked through this file

22years ago , that's how old Eda was

" before that , there is nothing about this man" Andrew added and i got more suspicious

" can you get anything more ?" I asked Andrew , i wanted more ; " i'm still trying " Andrew nodded at me before leaving my office

I didn't tell Eda anything about the woods incident , I didn't want to worry her , therefore i still had to deal with the fact that Luca was tracking me and sent one of his men to kill me

It wasn't just my life in danger, and that's what angered me even more

Time passed in my study while i was lost in my thoughts, my mother appeared ;" Chase , it's been a while since we saw you here " she said with a smile ; " sorry madre , I've been busy " i told her and she narrowed her eyes at me , still smiling

" with Eda " she rose her eyebrow ; " kinda " i told her frequently , there was nothing to hide anyway ; " I'm glad to see you happy in a relationship son , but let me ask you something" she stepped forward and took a seat

" do you see any future for this relationship?" She asked and I stared at her , surprised from this question, isn't it obvious ? Of course there is

" if I didn't want a future with someone i love , I wouldn't break up with Celine " i stated , and she went silent ; " i see , but i hope you realise the danger you're putting her into " she added and i looked at her confused

Was that a threat ?

" what do you mean mother ?" I asked ; " our enemies wouldn't have touched Celine cause they know who her father is , but Eda , she's an ordinary citizen , no one would care about her except for us , and her family of course " she said and i looked down, sighing

Cause she was right

Suddenly , Andrew came rushing again , this time terror was showing on his face ; " dude , you're not gonna believe this " he said and both my mother and i looked at him confused, he cleared my desk and threw a lot of papers on it

"Carl pierce , 24 years ago , he married Sara Pierce " he showed me a picture of Carl standing with a woman , Eda's mother, i could tell cause they looked so much like each other

" but Pierce , is Sara's own last name , not Carl's , he changed his name two years later " more confusion and questions were added , he brought another picture and showed it to us , a family ; " what is this ?" I questioned; " can't you recognise any of them ?" Andrew asked

I gazed at the picture, there was a woman in the middle , and three men with here , I recognised them all

And what a shock that was

The woman was Josephine Perez , the Perez mafia family leader , along side her son Jeremy Perez and Eda's father ; " what is the meaning of this ?" I asked Andrew , hoping to hear something that relieves me

But it didn't

" Eda's father , Carl Pierce , his real name , is Carl Perez , son of Elijah and Josephine Perez , the heir of the Perez family , the true heir " Andrew said and i closed my eyes , sighing , my mother had a shocked look on her face , this was indeed a shock for us

The Perez are considered to be the most dangerous mafia gang in the states , more dangerous than the Lucianos , probably the same level of danger and power as my family , the number of gangs and families they destroyed was unlimited and so were their victims

Our paths never crossed , we were not enemies but not friends either , our purposes were never the same nor our targets , so we never met , except for the friendly annual mafia gathering

" why didn't we know anything about Carl ?" I asked ; " like i said , he changed everything about himself, 22years ago , he deleted all of his records that were included in the Perez family " he said

" you mustn't see Eda anymore son , now that we know who she is " my mom spoke ; " Eda has nothing to do with this , she doesn't know any of this " i said as i got up ; " where are you going ?" Andrew asked

I ignored them as i headed outside and got inside my car , i drove away to Eda'a house

I have to tell her , or maybe not now , i have to confront her father first , there is nothing to hide anymore , he probably knows who i am as well , he knows my last name so there is no way he wouldn't know about me , and i know he didn't tell Eda cause that would risk to reveal his identity too

While i was driving , my phone ranged and i picked it up without seeing the ID caller ; " hello ?" I said and a voice I recognised replied ; " hello there , Chase " it was Luca ; " how the fuck did you get my number ?" I asked angrily

" i have my ways " he said ; " you tried to kill me , you scared my girlfriend at her school that day didn't you ?" I purred ; " oh , so you know it was me , dang it " he mocked me with his tone which angered me even more ; " what do you want ?" I said in a loud tone

" i called , cause , i wanted to tell you something very dangerous " he said and i thought he was bluffing ; " spill it out asshole " i said ; " it's about your girlfriend's father " he hinted and that got my attention , i pulled over a side road

" what are you talking about ?" I asked , a bit worried ; " he killed my guy that day , i had to find out things about this man , and you're not gonna believe this " he said and i sighed cause i knew he found out , what else could it be ?

; " wait a minute , you know , don't you ?" He cackled in the phone , he probably figured it from my sigh

" look , listen to me , this is between you and me , don't bring Eda and her father into this , do you hear me ?!!" I shouted through the phone
; " oops , but i already gave the order mate , killing one Perez would do for the both of us a favour , especially the heir " he said before he bursted into laughter, i hung up and threw my phone on the seat , i hit my fists on the steering wheel as I started the car and drove as fast as i could

Once i arrived at Eda 's house , i spotted the door opened , I quickly ran inside only to find the house in a mess , broken pictures and vases on the ground ; " EDA!" I called out her name but no answer, fear and shiver ran through my body at the thought of something might had happened to her

I reached the kitchen and there she was sitting on the ground , her back facing me , i let out a sigh as i felt relieved to see her well , when i entered the kitchen , my eyes landed on the blood pool that was all over the floor , Eda's father was laying dead , three bullets in his body as he was drowning in his own blood

I was late , too late
