Chapter Forty-Eight: Heartless

The housekeepers bring our food to the balcony, and I know the news I've just told Juliet isn't sitting well with her, she's angry, and she's got that fiery look in her eyes.

"You still keen on going to the beach?"

She nods, "Yes, I am."

"I'll have housekeeping organize some food and drinks and we'll make our way before lunch, sound good?"

She nods again.

I sigh, "Mi amore, I know you're upset, tell me what's on your mind?"

Juliet looks over the balcony and then looks at me, "I have a lot of questions Vince, how long have they been together? Why are they together? How long have they been watching us? I need answers to those answers."

"I know, I know mi amore, I have the same questions but that's not for us to dwell on right now,"

She picks up a strawberry and takes a bite, licking her lips to stop the juices from rolling down her chin, why does everything she does turn me on like this?

I dish a plate of flapjacks, chocolate syrup and berries for her and pour her a cup of coffee, she thanks me, and I proceed to dish my own food, even though I don't have much of an appetite, I'm hungry for something sweeter.

"Vince, whatever happened between you and Carmen?"

That killed the mood.

"Carmen and I met just after I graduated from Stanford University, she worked as a waitress at a bar that I went to with Angelo and Gio, she was being harassed one night by a customer and I swooped in to save the day, I took her to my apartment and we had sex and then we both caught feelings, six months into the relationship, she started asking questions about my family and the money, why I was coming home late and a lot more, I tried to put it off and then she threatened to leave me if I didn't tell her the truth,"

Juliet chuckles, "Manipulator, got it."

I sigh, "I didn't see it that way. I caved, I told her everything, my family was pissed, they hated me for it but once they met her, they quickly forgave her and she became a part of the family, weeks later I proposed,"

Juliet sips her coffee, "You really loved her, didn't you?"

"I thought I did but then she betrayed me, she cheated on me with a member of Russian mob bosses, Vladimir, they conspired against me, stole money from me and when I caught her, she told me that she didn't love me, Vladimir didn't know that we were engaged, he got mad and he shot her,"

"So, what happened? Did you take her to the hospital?"

"No, I left her there to die,"

I watch as Juliet's face changes from okay to completely terrified, and yes, I know, I shouldn't have left her there, but I could not be seen anywhere near that crime scene, I had pending cases in court.

"I had a lot going on, criminal cases in court because of her, I couldn't get myself mixed up in a murder,"

She sighs, "You were looking out for yourself I get that, and I don't blame you, she deserved it, she shouldn't have lied and cheated on you,"

"I loved her, and I don't think I ever healed from the heartache, I was with one woman after another, drinking, going on killing sprees and just scared and then I met you and then you betrayed but even then, I understood why you didn't because you were protecting yourself," I say.

She stands up from her chair and comes to sit on my lap, she cups my cheeks in her hands and kisses my lips, and I wrap my arms around her waist.

"I'm glad you came to save me," she whispers.

"Me too,"

Juliet wraps her arms around my neck and pulls me into her chest, feeling her soft breasts under my cheeks, I love her, and I don't think I'll ever stop saying it.

"Let's finish breakfast and head to the beach," I say, grabbing her juicy ass.

She giggles, "Let my ass go then, shark boy."

I spank her ass and she quickly gets off my lap and goes back to her seat.

Later that afternoon

The sound of the ocean while lying in the hot sun, is just what we needed to relax and destress, Julie is laying on her chest, fast asleep on the towel. I close my eyes for a brief moment and my phone decides to ring, I groan.

"Vincent, speaking, what do you want?"

"Must be nice, Vincent,"

I roll my eyes, "Thomas, what the hell do you want?"

"Just checking on my supplier, making sure that he's going to keep his end of the bargain," he says.

"I haven't received your money, McCredie, no money, no deal, those are the rules,"

He tsks, "It'll be a shame to have to cut your vacation in Seychelles short, and wake Juliet up from her nap."

I immediately go on high alert, I look around the beach and see no sign of other humans, "McCredie quit fucking around."

He laughs through the phone, "We could be great business partners, just don't fuck me over."

I get up from the ground, "Why would I do that?"

"Because one of your little rats hacked into my computer."

"Capo, I'm sorry, I did-

"Sarah! You better, let him go Thomas or the deal is off,"

"Baby, what's going on?"

Juliet sits up and looks at me.

"Thomas, I'm going to kill you."

I hung up the phone and looked at Julie.

"They have Sarah."

Julie doesn't even flinch, she just stares at me, "Who has her?"

"Thomas,"

She chuckles, "Serves her right."

"This isn't funny, we have to go back and save her,"

Juliet laughs, "No, we not going back to save that bitch, can't you send Juan to do it?"

I sigh, "No, we have to go, and I am not arguing with you on this."

"Fuck no, we are not letting that petty bitch ruin our vacation, Vince!"

I grip my phone tight in my hand, "Julie please,"

She gets up from the ground and stands face to face with me, "Why?"

"Because that's what the mafia does, it saves its own."

"Bullshit!"

"We saved you and you weren't even part of the mafia,"

She stares at me, "That's not the real reason, I'm not going anywhere until you give me the real reason why we are going back there to save her pathetic ass and mind you; we haven't spoken about what happened between the two of you,"

"Dammit Julie, we can do it later, every second we waste, she could be more in danger,"

"NO!"

"Dammit Julie, she's pregnant!"
