I told Briar about our permanent base of operations on Saturday, she and Mal turned in their two weeks' notice at work on Monday, and they're planning on making the trek to California next weekend. Brooks and I are surprising the girls and flying in Friday next week so we can drive with them. Neither one of us is comfortable with the idea of the two of them on that long of a road trip by themselves. Not only are they living, breathing chaos together, but they're obviously gorgeous and we've seen too many episodes of Criminal Minds to not think they'd be some creep's wet dreams. I'm booking mine and Brooks' flights when my phone lights up next to my keyboard. I can't fight the smile that crosses my face when I see it's from Briar.

I lean back into my chair with a heavy sigh. Briar is phenomenal at her job. She's an incredible nurse and does really well under pressure, but she also cares so much about her patients that is usually tears her up if the outcome doesn't turn out ideal. Depends on how bad it is, she can either be sent home right after getting there, end up working all night and into her shift the next day, or she can be in and out within an hour or two. I'm really hoping it's the latter, but I don't see it turning out that way. I'm running a hand down my face and trying to think of what would be helpful when the cushion shifts next to me.
"Briar on first call? Mal got called in for an MVA while we were on the phone and she's on second call," Brooks sighs from his end of the couch.
"Yep. Shit, that means it's gonna be a rough one. Wait, I have an idea!" I pick my phone back up and send off another text.
