Alhaitham's POV
"Now look who's blushing."
He teased me with a smile, small beads of sweat forming on his brow from dancing. For once out of my entire life, I was left speechless as I was staring at him. When Nilou had been dancing on the stage I was impressed, but it was nothing special. She was a trained dancer, it was her job to get people to look at her. So I barely paid her any attention when I saw her move. But when Kaveh got on stage and started dancing and shaking his hips like she had, so effortlessly something about him made me unable to tear my eyes away. The way his blonde hair swirled around his body and his hands twisted captivated me. And when he locked eyes with me as he spun made me even more interested. I never knew he could dance, but when he was on the stage everyone had to stop and stare at him.
Looking into his eyes tonight I saw something, much different than I've ever seen before. Instead of the annoying roommate, I saw a man that seemed free. A man who seemed happy, someone that I've never noticed in that way before. Like how he twirled his hair between his fingers when he got nervous, or the way his eyes would dart from side to side when I made him nervous. But when he was dancing on stage he was something that deep down I had always been curious about. He was free. He didn't care what anyone thought of him in the moment, he simply let himself go and move to the music.
"Care for a drink?"
I blurted, my mouth moving faster than my head was. What was I thinking? Kaveh was a complete mess when he was drunk.
"You're offering to buy me something?"
He raised his eyebrow, looking skeptical of my request.
"I was thinking we could have a drink at home. I keep some expensive rum for special occasions."
I turned my back and started walking as he followed me, back to our home.
"Since when is this a special occasion?"
He teased, a smile washing over his face as he ran in front of me and started walking backwards so I could see him as we were walking home.
"We saw a nice dance tonight, that's all. I simply thought we could share a drink together and at least pretend we are civilized but if you'd rather retreat back to your room I'd have no objections-"
"No. A drink is fine, Alhaitham."
Kaveh smiled, turning his body back around and walking by my side until we reached the emerald doors of my house.
"Gods I'm tired."
Kaveh groaned, falling over on my light emerald couch the second we walked through the door. He placed his feet on the table in front of us, closing his eyes with a smile.
"Get your feet off the table before I remove them myself."
I snapped, already getting annoyed. He always managed to do something to piss me off. He peaked one of his eyes open to look at me, and sighed as he removed his feet.
"You're no fun. Seriously, have you ever had a good time in your life? I'm seriously doubting if your parents ever took you to go outside as a child."
"Oh assuming about my parents, huh? I'll bet yours never spent any time with you and that's why you're so emotionally fragile."
I watched both of his eyes fling open as he leaned forward and rested his arms on his knees.
"And I thought you were intelligent enough to know that I never had parents. I grew up in an adoption center."
He snapped back, this time his eyes were the ones hardening. Fuck. I had gotten so absent minded that I completely forgot about his past. This wasn't like me. I was so used to carefully calculating and formulating my responses for the optimal outcome, but I had been so distracted recently. And when it came to Kaveh, it seemed like all my rationality was thrown out the window.
