Alhaitham's POV

I tapped my pen eagerly against my desk. I was usually never nervous when it came to my plans, I always knew everything would work out. But this time it involved someone I cared about more than myself, so I was worried. Everything was perfect. It had to be. Cyno was helping me, he wanted Drea dead about as much as I did. She had threatened Tighnari as well, saying she could even throw him in jail. Oh, did we have a plan for her. Part of me, the sadistic side wanted to see her face when she realized she was caught. When she found out she was going to live out a fate worse than death, and it was all because of Cyno and I.

I was alone in the Grand Sage's office, I made sure of that. There wasn't a single scholar on the top floor, I had searched myself and made sure. This plan had to be flawless. I glanced up at the clock ticking above me, she should be here by now. I told her to meet me here ten minutes ago yet she had not bothered to show. Everything would be ruined if she didn't bother. I hope Cyno knew what he was doing. And then my eyes flicked to the glowing elevator as someone rode it to the top, the light shining into my office as I saw her. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail and she wore her black glasses, wearing the head architect uniform. Her heels clacked against the marble as she strutted towards me with the clipboard in her hands, a smile on her face.

"I was surprised when I heard you wanted to meet me. Thank you, by the way for the promotion. It really does mean a lot."

She beamed, stopping in front of my desk as she set the clipboard down.

"I gather this isn't a social call. You look like you want to kill me, do you want to kill me? Because we know you can't. Oh, by the way, how's Kaveh? I'm sure today was a hard day for him."

I wanted to swing my sword and chop her head off. I wanted her to suffer more than anything, but I knew I had to stay calm. I needed to be someone different right now.

"I wanted to thank you."

"Thank me?"

"I wanted to thank you for showing me the light. After I broke the news to Kaveh he was ungrateful. He was angry at me, he said many times he didn't want to see me anymore.

"Is that right?"

She asked, narrowing her eyes at me as she bent down to look me in the eyes.

"Now that I took his job away he won't even look at me. We spent the entire night screaming at each other when he should have been glad that I saved him. He should have been grateful but he didn't say a single word of thanks to me. I took a job I despised just to protect him and he couldn't even look me in the eyes."

Her eyes softened for a moment and I knew I was getting into her mind. This was exactly what I needed.

"We can't even be in the same room anymore. He told me he can't look at me anymore, not without thinking about how the guards abused him. He's screwed up Drea, and I can't believe it took me this long to see it. He was distracting me from my quest for knowledge, he made me use the damn divine knowledge capsule on him. And he wasn't worth it."

"I always knew he wasn't grateful. He was using you, Alhaitham. And you were so desperate for someone to care about you for once in your life that you fell for it. He can be very charming."

"I've been distracted. I've been lusting after him believing he was the one who could truly be worth it when I was missing what was right in front of me the entire time."

I made my tone silky, almost seductive as I shifted my eyes. I was terrible at flirting, I hated even the idea of it especially with her. But I needed to get close enough to her, I needed to make her believe me. And this was the only way I knew how. Plus, Kaveh had helped me practice.
