Kaveh's POV

"Ready to go?"

Alhaitham murmured in my ear, his lips brushing against my face. My body whirled around and jumped, I definitely was not expecting that.

"Go... where again?"

I shrugged, my mind definitely wasn't in my body today.

"Cyno. Tighnari. It's the day we play cards together....remember?"

"Oh. Cards. Yes. I remember."

I lied. Alhaitham had told me that we had a date to go play cards with them again while I was extremely drunk, so truth is I didn't exactly remember.

"Come on. They're waiting at the cafe."

"No bar?"

I groaned. Even though I had a wicked hangover I never missed an opportunity to drink.

"No drinking tonight. I can't even fathom how you can have another sip of alcohol. My head is screaming at me."

"Practice."

"Come on."

A few short minutes later we were taking our seats at the table, but this time it was different than the table we had played on last time. It was a booth with Cyno and Tighnari on one side, and an opening for Alhaitham and I.

"You two are late as always."

Tighnari gave us a smile while he pulled out the box his deck was in and started shuffling the cards.

"Kaveh takes longer to get ready than any girl I know."

Alhaitham grumbled.

"If memory serves, you don't know a lot of women."

He shot me a look, but pulled out his own deck and started shuffling the cards so we could play.

"You two seem different. Let me guess, something happened that neither of you can take back?"

Cyno raised an eyebrow at the both of us, taking out his own deck. I choked on my own breath, covering my mouth as soon as he said the words. How he could know so easily, I had no idea. I placed my hand over my throat as I started coughing, trying to avoid the glare I knew Alhaitham must have been giving me.

"Nothing has happened between us."

"I thought you prided yourself on not lying, Alhaitham."

I laughed, finally recovering from my coughing fit. Oh, there the glare was.

"So are you two together?"

"NO!"

We both shouted at the same time, giving each other a look as we both had answered their questions. Tighnari placed a hand over his lips and laughed, darting his eyes around the both of us.

"Sure. Only a matter of time."

"Maybe in his dreams."

Alhaitham mumbled, drawing cards from his hand as we started the game.

"You are in my dreams. In fact, almost all of them."

I smirked, and I could see him rolling his eyes as he placed down his first card.

"So you're telling me you want them to know everything that's happened between us? Like when we were in your office and-"

"NO!"

I shouted, flinging my hand to cover his mouth so he couldn't say anything further. I heard him chuckling from underneath my hand as I moved it away slowly.
