—The Next Day, 7:50am—
——Early in the morning Puppet made her was across rooftops, looking to find the unlucky people who were going to become the newest souls added to her arsenal.
The prestigious high school, UA, was in view of where she was. She glanced up at it as she traveled. She'd forgotten how big it was.
UA starts at 8:15, right? she asked herself. It might be fun to go and say hello.
She slowed her pace when she heard a few male voices coming from a nearby alleyway. She walked over and began to listen in on their conversation.
"Yes. Take it god dammit," a deep voice said.
"Don't shove it into me, there are a lot of dollar bills! The band could have broke!" another voice answered in an annoyed tone.
Puppet scoffed. Sounds like a drug deal.
"That sounds like a you problem."
"Shut up, jackass!"
Once she got to the edge of the alley, she looked over the rim of the rooftop and down at whoever was there. There were three men in the alley; two of the men were on the left side, and the third was on the right. The alley itself had a narrow entrance leading out to a street with small apartment buildings. The area within the alley made up for the narrow entrance, it was big and hidden enough to be a perfect spot for shady deals.
One of the men quickly flicked through the large stack of money, counting it, while another held a high quality plastic bag in his hand.
"Keep it down. It's morning hours, someone could hear us," the third man said, his voice shaking.
Puppet jumped down into the back of the alley and landed on her feet with a thump. Her boots absorbed most of the impact.
She stood up straight, grinning. "Too late."
The three men looked over at her. The one on the right side of the alley looked shocked, while the other two on the left had expressions of shock mixed with fear.
Those two know who I am.
"Shit!" The man on the right took a step back. "Who's this chick?!"
The man on the left — the one not holding the bag — stumbled backwards and started to run towards the entrance of the alley.
Puppet shot a string from her fingertip and wrapped it around his leg. She pulled his limb out from under him, and he fell forward, face-planting the ground. He quickly propped himself up on his arms and looked back at his trapped leg. Blood quickly dripped out of his nose; broken. He looked at the black-and-white villain in horror.
The smile on her face grew.
"Not trying to escape now are we?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.
"The hell are you?!" the man asked the same question as before, only worded differently.
"Shut up, you idiot!" the man holding the bag yelled at the other. "That's the villain Puppet Master!"
"He's correct," she answered, confirming her identity.
In less than a second, a few more strings came from her fingers and coiled up and around the man with the bag. Before the man knew what was happening, she pulled on the strings.
The man's body was cut cleanly into chunks and they hit the ground, spurting blood. The blood pooled on the ground, the amount growing with every passing second. The bag was beyond saving, as it was now covered in blood.
A wispy white light rose from and hovered above the chunks of flesh and bone that was once was a person; his soul.
The man to the right of dropped the money from his hands onto the ground and pulled a handgun from his belt, aiming at Puppet.
She only smirked.
"A gun is all you've got?" she asked. "How disappointing."
She flicked a single string through the air like a whip, cutting the man's hand that had the gun clean off. Curiously, the blood that came from the man's wound was blue.
His scream of agony was cut short as she kicked him against the wall of the alley and threw the dagger from her boot straight through his chest, killing him instantly.
She pulled the blade from his chest and slid it back into boot. His body fell to the ground. Another white light rose from the man's crumpled body.
She hummed. That's soul number two of three.
She crouched down and picked up the wad of money that the man had dropped. It seemed to be about a few hundred. She stuffed the money into her pocket.
Puppet turned to the third man who had started trying to army-crawl his way out of the alley. She pulled on the string that she still had gripped in her hand. The man whimpered like an injured dog as she dragged him back to her by his ankle.
She looked him up and down, noticing that he looked younger than the other two men who were now dead and in pools of their own blood.
She pulled the man until he was only a mere foot away from her. She dropped the string in her hand to the floor and stepped on it with the heel of her boot, ensuring that he couldn't go anywhere.
The man covered his broken and bloody nose with his hands and clenched his eyes shut, presumably waiting for death.
"Please don't kill me," he whispered to himself. Tears rolled down his face and mixed with the blood.
"What's your quirk?" Puppet asked him.
The man opened his eyes and looked up at her, his face twisted in pain and confusion.
"Well?" she prompted. "What is it?"
"I-Illuminate," he answered with a shaky and scared voice. "I c-can illuminate a dark area around myself."
An almost useless quirk, she thought to herself. Would only come in handy if you're in a place that's devoid of all light.
She didn't give him any warning before lashing out a string and slicing through his throat. A third white light rose from his body. She grabbed his soul and it burned out like a cold flame in her hand — that meant that it was now hers to use when she needed it. She grabbed the other two souls that were hovering above the other men, carefully stepping around the blood.
I have fourteen souls now, I would prefer to have more, but I'll do that later...
She shot strings up to the place where she had jumped down into the alley from. The strings twined together into a thicker string that was easier to hold onto and impaled themselves into the rooftop above the alley. She manipulated the strings like a grappling hook and pulled herself up and onto the roof.
...right now I want to say hi to UA.
