Childhood

Mum screamed at dad, and he yelled right back,
I was 10 when they told me to pack,
My mind empty; my room dark,
I left my friends, and it still burns a mark.

Everything later had a steep down fall,
I pretended to be blind, but I'd seen it all,
They started fighting worse and my world came crashing down,
My lips stayed pressed, and my face held a frown.

They never seemed to notice what it was doing to me,
I wanted them to listen when I screamed to be free,
I wanted them to see the dreams I've harbored,
Alas they never saw, alas they never heard.

I always tried to follow whatever they said,
But to my pricked heart no attention they paid,
They saw my good deeds they cheered my victories,
Then they vanished and my heart sat at unease.

At a blinding speed a question crashed into me,
Had I lost their affection in the grueling sea?
I paid no heed to the stupid question,
For all I ever wanted was their attention.

I sighed deeply the tears have dried,
I wash my face, so they don't know I've cried,
The action is useless cause they won't care anyway,
I don't want to get ahead of myself so that's all I'll say.
