Grian's Perspective-

Flashback (Grian Age 7)-

"Come on Birdie, don't cry."

Grian tried to catch his breath as he wiped his eyes, but he continued to cry.

"I'll be back before you know it." His friend smiled, hugging Grian.

Grian sniffed, "But when?"

"Well..." His friend bit his lip, "I'm not really sure."

"Promise me you'll write."

"I will." His friend said, grabbing Grian's hand.

"I promise."

Grian blushed.

He wanted to tell him.

He really did.

Besides, he may never meet his best friend again.

Now was the perfect chance to confess his love for him.

Get it over with.

But the words never seemed to escape his lips.

To be honest, he was sad because his crush was leaving him.

"Birdie...I'm gonna miss you too."

"But do you really have to move all the way up to New York?! Why can't you stay here in North Carolina? With me, with my friends. Why not stay in Ashville with me? Why so far?"

His friend sighed and shrugged, "I'm not sure, Bridie. But look on the bright side! We sold our house and you'll have new neighbors! I heard my mom say that they have a son so maybe you'll make new friends with them."

Grian sighed and nodded sadly.

"Come on Birdie. You got this. Please don't be sad when I leave, I would hate that."

"But...can't you stay?"

His friend shook his head, "My mom wants to move up there and I think she got a better job there anyway."

Grian sighed.

"Okay." He mumbled.

"Thank you." His friend hugged him.

Grian hugged back, breaking down into tears.

"I'll write, I promise. We can exchange emails and we'll talk every day."

"Every day?"

"Every day."

"Promise?"

"I promise, Birdie. You can't get rid of me that easily."

Grian let out a watery giggle.

"I love you." His friend mumbled.

Grian looked up, blushing, but his friend looked away, his face red.

I don't- I wasn't supposed to hear that.

They then jumped when his friend's parents came out, carrying boxes.

"Hey Grian!" His friend's mother said.

"Hey sweetie." She kissed her son's forehead.

"Hey mom!"

"You almost ready? You packed up?"

"My stuff's already in the car." He said.

"Good. Me and your father are just helping the movers put everything else in the truck and then we'll go."

-

Grian hugged his friend one more time before watching him enter his parents' car.

"I love you." Grian muttered as he waved goodbye to his friend.

Their car turned the corner and tears started to stream down Grian's face.

"Goodbye Mumbo."
