Chapter 03: Preparation (Re-written)

[Ayanokōji Kiyotaka POV]

April 2nd︱Morning︱Dormitory (401)

As the sun's rays streamed through the window, signaling the start of the second day of my high school life, I couldn't help but feel a sense of normalcy settling in. Today was technically the first official day of the school session.

After the events of yesterday, I wasted no time in making my way to the dormitory. The dormitory was exclusively reserved for first-year students, and it consisted of four buildings, each designated for a specific grade level and staff members. Each building was a towering 15-storey structure, accommodating a minimum of 140 rooms, allocated to individual students and staff.

The layout of the dormitory was designed with strict segregation in mind. The first seven floors were designated for male students, while the upper seven floors were reserved for the female students. My assigned room, 401, was located on the fourth floor, aligning with the first room on that level.

Naturally, as per the rules, boys were strictly prohibited from entering the girls' living area after 8 pm. Furthermore, the rooms in each building were intentionally kept minimalistic, providing only the bare necessities for a student's survival.

"Huh? Why am I explaining this to myself?" I muttered quietly under my breath, shaking my head lightly in a moment of self-reflection. Setting aside my thoughts, I entered the bathroom to start my morning shower.

As the water cascaded down, cleansing my body, I found it difficult to shake off the events of yesterday. The memory was etched vividly in my mind, replaying like a broken record.

"Current Balance: 3,668,607 private points." It had been a while since I last checked my account balance, but the absurd amount of private points was still fresh in my memory. Illegitimately obtained, they now rested in the palm of my hand.

I have done it, haven't I? I extorted private points and gathered information about the S-System from the upperclassmen. Yet, despite the success, doubt nagged at me. Was this truly the right choice?

An entire plan draft loomed in my mind, waiting to be executed. But as I stood beneath the shower's steady stream, I couldn't help but question the path I had chosen.

Is this truly the normal high school life I had envisioned for myself? Is the path I'm treading really the right one? Perhaps, at this juncture, I could abandon the plan and seek an alternative path that avoids causing harm. Yet, would that be enough to secure a peaceful life?

Or is it possible that I don't deserve freedom from the very beginning? What if my existence itself is nothing more than an anomaly, an illegal presence in this world due to the interference of higher beings?

I am just an ordinary student, living an ordinary life, or at least that's what I aspired for. But deep down, I knew that attaining such a reality was simply impossible.

I have no choice but to proceed. It is the role I have been assigned since the moment of my existence.

I must impersonate myself into something else for the sake of that purpose, as an absolute order from her.

After finishing my shower, I swiftly changed into my school uniform. As I stood before the mirror, I couldn't help but gaze at the reflection it presented—a boy with an expressionless face and cold, dark crimson eyes, ready to delve into the unexplored realms of this new phase of life.

"...No matter how many times I look at myself, it's hard to believe that this is actually happening," I sighed softly, feeling a mix of disbelief and resignation. I grabbed my school bag and left the room, heading towards the convenience store to grab something for breakfast.
