After the little scare from the other day I just stuck around the prison and helped Lori, Beth, and Carl with Hershel. For the most part it was just getting him a little cleaned up and by that we changed his bandage on his leg while he was given food by Beth. Carl was just kinda standing outside the cell and waiting for us to ask for help if we needed it. Once he was all cleaned up and fixed I stood up and Hershel instantly just started to stand up.

“Whoa what are you doing?” I asked him as he sat up and looked at each of us

“Gotta stretch my legs,” he explained simply. I wasn’t sure he should be moving so soon and looked over to Lori who just nodded her head, telling me it was okay to let him move a little bit

“Just take your time” Lori advised him with her calm motherly tone. He didn’t seem to really respond to her as he scooted closer to the edge

“Daddy, don’t push yourself,” Beth said, worried that he might hurt himself even more. This earned a chuckle from Hershel. I assume it was a way to ease her worry

“What else am I going to do?” he asked her as he used the bunk bed and pulled himself up to stand, with Beth, and my help of course “I can’t stand looking up at that bottom of that bunk anymore” he said and suddenly started to lose his balance which I instantly moved to pull him back to his feet and steady him. I looked to Lori who was also trying to do the same

“Lori don’t push yourself” I told her and she almost gave me a stern look. I didn’t need Lori getting hurt and hurting the baby because Hershel lost his balance. She ignored me as Hershel adjusted himself and tapped the ground with the crutches as if to see if it was really solid for him to walk on. He then took a small step forward and stopped

“You know, I think I’m pretty steady” Hershel told her as he looked at her then started to move closer and closer to the door. I moved to the outside to make sure I was in front of him while Beth took my old spot at his side

“That’s a good start. Want to take a rest?” Lori asked, sounding more like she was telling him to rest without actually telling him to. Hershel didn’t seem to listen to her

“Rest?” Hershel chuckled at her like she was crazy “let’s go for a little stroll” he told her and without another word on the matter he started to move forward and toward the exit.

“Carl get the door please?” I asked as we helped Hershel up the steps to the door which Carl opened then slowly started to make our way down the steps again “Lori I’ll watch him” I laughed lightly at her as she stood beside me as we both held up our hands to make sure Hershel didn’t just fall flat on his face down the stepps.

“It could take both of us to stop him” She shrugged

“You're pregnant” I shot her a smirk and she sighed at me as her eyes rolled to the back of her head. We didn’t expect Hershel to fall anyways. “Woah” I said with the others as Hershel stopped on one step and moved around like he was losing his balance. After a second he managed to get his balance back then started to move down the last steps until he was on the ground.

“You worry too much” Hershel mumbled but smiled in his eyes as he moved forward. We all walked by his side and just looked over the now cleared out court and all the way out into the fields where we had camped just a few nights ago. It looked peaceful if you could just wipe away the walkers hanging on the fence here and there and the barbed wire. Off to the side I saw Carol backing up one of the trucks so we could use it later and T-dog was guiding her so she didn’t hit the other car.

“You cleared all those bodies out?” Hershel asked, seeming surprised that they managed to clear it all out so fast. “It’s started to look like a place we could really live in” he added, making me smile more.
