So why don't we go somewhere only we know ♪"Let's get you home."
Jisung desperately wanted to ask about the meeting
wondering if the varsity star lost a deal or something. But the absence of a signed contract didn't seem to faze the boy, who was gleeful from ear to ear. After some distance, the area became familiar again. Jae looked up and down the empty streets. "no more shuttles this late," he said as he began shoving his metrocard deep into the pockets of Jisung's jean jacket. "Take the train home."
Jisung was so accustomed to Jaemin giving him things he wasn't even surprised. "But what about you?" he asked curiously.
Jae searched the streets again. One would think it was raining from the way the cars plastered on the asphalt but it was dry. "...I'll take a cab a little later."
Jisung hummed to himself. "Well...I'll leave whenever you do."
Jaemin understood his unspoken words and that it meant he didn't want to be home. He was secretly hoping it meant he wanted to be with him instead.
"I feel like getting fresh air." Jaemin's eyes wandered to the school's rooftop for some reason and he flashed a mischievous smile before running off. He knew Jisung would follow out of curiosity.
Ji wondered what was wrong with the air down below but followed anyways like predicted.
❡ On the west side staircase, there was a door leading to roof access. "The best air is here at the top." Jae said, leading the way.
Jisung's shocked face said it all. " How did you get in here!?"
"It's open everyday during lunch period." Jae said it in a matter of fact way as if the students were too dumb to realize. "Maintenance doesn't close it again until midnight."
Jisung peered around the rooftop; the high walls made it impossible to see anything but the remainder of the campus. "This explains why I never see you..." he thought out-loud.
"Well," Jaemin responded. "I'm here if you're looking..."
His secret hiding spot was no longer secret, but he didn't seem to mind the intruder.
☀
As dusk approached, Jaemin opened a small cardboard box which sat behind a corner. Inside were glass jars with holes poked into the tops. "This is the best place to catch them because of the humidity." Jaemin whispered as he spoke as if they were hiding from someone.
Jisung actually hadn't noticed but fireflies were all around. he couldn't remember the last time he saw them so out of excitement joined in. "I wanna catch them!"
It became a competition to see who could catch the most and when they grew tired and set the flies free, they noticed that two stayed behind.
Jaemin peered with his face close to the glass, "They don't want to leave."
"maybe they're soulmates..." Jisung smirked to himself because he knew Jae would find that corny.
But jaemin agreed, "maybe." He sat his back against the fenced wall and Jisung did the same. The fireflies could be spotted from the momentary brightness they provided in the foggy air. But even though foggy, the rooftop was indeed cooler, just like the older said.
"So," Jisung treaded, lightly. "I guess you won't be a university star."
"I guess not." The boy responded in a bland voice.
