The sun was trying its best to shine through the clouds and would peek out every here and there before the clouds took their rightful spot again. This provided a nice cool breeze though it seemed it could rain any moment

The bus was quite late today. His friends laughed and talked beside him but he kept his eye on the boy who was now a few feet from him waiting for a ride. He was accompanied by another boy who he seemed to be quite close with already.

"Hey," Jisung nudged. "Who's that?"

Chenle was too busy laughing with classmates so he didn't hear him.

Suddenly the air became stiff when the boy looked right over at him as if the words had traveled. Jisung looked away so quickly he almost got whiplash. He found a building in the far distance to admire for architectural purposes..

But someone had heard his request. His classmate Haechan was on the opposite side of the bench where they sat. "Ahhhh," he said confidently, "That's Na Jaemin."

Jisung's eyes responded to the red head while trying his best to avoid any interaction with his peripheral view. Haechan's red hair was banned from the dress code but for some reason he was able to avoid changing it. He was one of those kinds of students, rebellious yet charming enough to not be suspended. A smooth operator for sure.

"Oh..." Jisung whispered embarrassedly. He could feel his brain saving the name Jaemin to his long term memory.

Haechan seemed amused at his reaction. He always looked at Jisung this way, mildly amused with everything he did. He and Chenle had been friends way before Jiusung entered the picture. Their mothers were friends from college and they automatically grew up together. This however did not change Chenle's relationship with him. They were more like cousins and Haechan always treated him like a little brother.

He always tried to play matchmaker, he would even buy him clothes like a true big brother so that he could find his tick for fashion. It helped a little, Jisung began at least making sure he wore clothes that matched. But he was still not interested in dating. No one ever peaked his interest. He found nothing wrong with the girls he introduced to him, he just had no interest...

Once they entered freshman year, Chenle would try to intervene and protect his innocence against the raunchy Haechan but Jisung finally agreed. Chenle had already pulled him from the trenches of outcast society, so he wanted to at least "fit in." So Haechan matched him with one of his friends, a kind quiet girl who he felt was a good match. During the freshman dance, the two realized after an awkward "kiss" that there was just no spark. because they were not into the opposite gender at all. After laughing about it and having a courageous discussion, they agreed to hide the revelation from their friends until the last day of school. {see more in chapter ten}

Haechan understood and didn't want to make him uncomfortable so the matchmaking services ended thereafter.

"So... you like him?" Haechan gloated, causing Chenle to take notice of the conversation. "Does he like who?" he said loudly.

Just then Jisung looked back to his left to ensure his crush didn't hear. He was still chatting with the same classmate as before and the crowd that followed him had now disappeared. He seemed to take great joy in the conversation with the other student. He watched as he laughed and his head hovered downward in a joyful reaction. He wondered what words made him laugh so hard.

Haechan continued looking at Jisung supportively,"I'd hurry before he finds someone. He may be in a relationship next week."

Jisung thought that Haechan had the ropes to make anything happen. He was certain he could 'put in a good word' but he felt too cowardly to request that. So he said nothing.

"If that was my style, I would steal him from you. He's got the looks and the personality. What a bummer."

Chenle sucked his teeth. " i thought you were dating a foreignerrrrr," He teased

Haechan laughed and then paused. "Oh thanks for reminding me....I have to text her good morning!"

Chenle's response was sharp as he pretended to turn on his phone, "Not if I text her first."

Just then they began wrestling, carefully ensuring not to accidentally smack Jisung in the head from where he sat on the double sided bench.

"Once she sees me she will dump you!" Chenle teased.
"I'm confident she will prefer my sweet serenade over yours." Haechan said pompously. Chenle attacked him again. Haechan lost the match as usual. He was all talk.

Jisung's attention was returned to his crush who's ride had approached. He watched closely as the two entered together. He didn't acknowledge the feelings that overcame him from seeing that.

Finally their bus arrived but he continued to watch the black sedan until it disappeared onto another street.

Chenle called to him, "Hurry!"

Jisung jumped from the bench with his bookbag loosely flopping around on his back.

"Tsk tsk tsk..." Chenle sounded through his teeth. "Your first crush and it has to be the boy next door."

Jisung just smiled. Regardless of the challenges ahead, it was the only time he felt a spark for someone else. He pretended to be confident in choosing to like Na Jaemin—the dazzling boy next door.
