"Another day, another job, that's all it is." Said the voice on the phone.
"A conflict of interest is. Isn't there another man for the job?" I ask.
The voice on the other end sighed, "I'm sorry, but you're the only one."
I hang up the phone, go on my way to finish up this task.Glazed over eyes, he didn't bother to look my way as I walked in.
He sucked back a beer, and then another, self pity in his frown.
He says "I know why you're here, but my crime wasn't out of sin."
I say "I know, but I have an obligation to take you down town."An old friend out of luck, out on the table I place my gun.
"I'll tell them I couldn't keep up, if you happen to run."Author's Note:
Challenge Prompt
I was so, so sick yesterday. I couldn't focus on anything, 'cause y head ached so bad. So, it's kind of funny that the prompt was obligation, and I just couldn't get a poem in.
Thank you for choosing this poem as the challenge winner!
