Chapter 82: The Fortress of Shadows

With barely any time to lose, the heroes all quickly rushed to Vale. However, Blake had Adeleine and Ribbon stay with Sun, knowing that whatever was coming would be too dangerous for them. They then arrived at Beacon Academy, finding Oscar and Glynda after they had just finished with a combat class. Team RWBY, Kirby, and Meta Knight explained what had happened. Oscar looked completely shocked by what he had heard.

"If all of this is true, then we have to get all of Remnant on guard. There's no telling how powerful this group could be. In the meantime, you all need to find wherever the Jambastion Church keeps their base and stop them before they can succeed."

"After Yamikage died, he left his Scroll behind. I was able to look through it, it didn't say where the base was but it did give us the location of where the Jamba Heart was headed," Blake replied.

"The ruins of Atlas, from the looks of it," Weiss clarified.

"If we all go after it, maybe we could ambush these guys," Ruby added.

Oscar nodded and quickly arranged transports for them before he got ready to tell the world to prepare for the oncoming attack while also sending other Huntsmen to the ruins of Atlas to help fight the invaders. Once the heroes reached the remains of what was once the kingdom of Atlas, they also saw a giant fortress with horns, bat wings, and a giant glowing red eye.

"That's gotta be them," Yang stated.

Once they got to the gated entrance of the fortress, they saw the Jamba Heart fly inside. They chased after it through the fortress, until it landed in what appeared to be a large altar. Three women in religious robes were waiting for them.

"Bonjam," they all greeted together.

"Bon-what?" Kirby asked, trying hard not to laugh.

"That's how we greet people on our planet," the woman in the blue robe replied.

"Are you making fun of sweet Francisca?! Don't you dare deny it, stubby!" the woman in the red robe yelled at Kirby.

"And now you're making fun of how he looks?! Have you seen a mirror lately, ugly?!" Yang yelled to defend her son.

"Silence!" the woman in yellow robes yelled. "Allow us to introduce ourselves. I am Zan Partizanne the eldest of the Mage-Sisters. The mage in blue is Francisca, and the mage in red is Flamberge. We are daughters adopted by the Jambastion Church, tasked with command of the Fortress of Shadows."

"What do you want?" Ruby spat.

"Such rudeness," Francisca shook her head. "We wish to reassemble the dark Jamba Heart pieces that were scattered across the universe."

"Together, they'll make the strongest, most pure form of Dark Matter anyone can find in the present day!" Flamberge yelled.

"Dark Matter?" Weiss asked.

"I do not even know what Dark Matter may be," Meta Knight replied.

"I see. Then, to enlighten you all, it was originally created by the god of Darkness. Therefore, it is the cause of much of the evil that may be found throughout the universe. A form of it was used to create the Grimm and the pools from which they could spawn. Therefore, Dark Matter was responsible for Salem's thirst for destruction. Of course, it was not just Salem who held Dark Matter within herself. Dark Matter also gave birth to NME, being the living form of a nightmare. He would also use Dark Matter to create some of his monsters. More recently, it was used to fuel Haltmann's Star Dream," Zan Partizanne explained.

"We've defeated all of those things you've mentioned! Whatever you want the Jamba Hearts for, I wouldn't count on it working!" Kirby yelled.

"Hmph. You've certainly made it clear that you are not just annoying simpletons. You clearly are formidable, though you are all still merely interfering interlopers who can and will be punished."
