Chapter 8: First Impressions

The next morning, Team RWBY was getting ready for their second day of class. Kirby was on Yang's bed drinking out of his milk bottle. While he was drinking, he stood up and tried to see if everyone was ready yet. Unfortunately, as he leaned on the side of the bed, he lost his balance and fell down. Luckily, he landed unharmed, and just went back to drinking. However, everybody then noticed him.

"OH NO IT'S THAT PINK FREAK!" Weiss shrieked.

Hearing what she said, Yang grew furious as her lilac eyes turned red.

"DON'T EVER TALK ABOUT HIM LIKE THAT AGAIN!" Yang yelled.

"THAT THING SWALLOWED ME AND THEN SPIT ME OUT! WHAT EVEN IS IT?!" Weiss yelled back.

"Actually, that is a good question Yang. What is his species? He's obviously not a Grimm, but he doesn't look like any other kind of creature either," Blake pointed out.

Yang then calmed down. "I don't know what kind of creature he is, but it doesn't matter to me. He's cute, adorable, and most importantly, he's my adopted son!" Yang declared.

"Poyo!" Kirby cheered. "Aww!" Yang, Ruby, and Blake replied.

"Hmph, you won't trick me with your cuteness," Weiss muttered.

"Cmon Weiss, he won't hurt you! He's friendly!" Ruby smiled. Kirby then waved at Weiss and greeted, "Hi!"

"And besides, since I adopted him we'll all have to deal with him for our four years at Beacon," Yang reminded her.

She then asked Weiss if she could keep him a secret. But before she could respond, Kirby walked up to her and gave her puppy eyes.

"Ugh...fine. I guess we can keep the little gumball," Weiss rolled her eyes.

Later when class was about to start, Yang put Kirby in her backpack.

"I promised to take you with me, and I meant it!"

"Poyo!" Kirby cheered.

"Just try to be quiet again, ok?" Yang asked. "Ai!" Kirby nodded. Team RWBY then headed to class, this time with Kirby.

In class, Kirby watched Jaune of Team JNPR fight against a very strong looking man named Cardin, inside of Yang's backpack. The fight entertained him, despite the fact Jaune lost. The teacher that was usually seen with the headmaster, Glynda Goodwitch, then told Jaune a better way how to fight. She then announced the Vytal Festival, where there would be a combat tournament.

"I can't wait for the festival! Dedede would never host anything as cool as that back home!" Kirby thought.

At lunchtime, Nora was telling a story while Ren kept correcting the parts she got wrong. The story fascinated Kirby, and he got to learn a bit more about the Grimm.

After Nora and Ren finished, Kirby heard Pyrrah ask,
"Jaune, are you ok?"

He answered, "Huh? Oh yeah, why?"

Ruby explained, "It's just that you seem a little...not ok."

"Guys, I'm fine. Seriously. Look!" Jaune forced a smile. "Hehehe..."

"Yep, he is NOT ok," Kirby thought. Jaune then looked at Cardin, who was picking on a girl with bunny ears.

Pyrrah pointed out, "Jaune, Cardin has been picking on you since the first day of school."

Jaune asked, "Who? Cardin Winchester? He just likes to mess around, practical jokes."

Ruby argued, "He's a bully."

Jaune said, "Name one time he's bullied me." Everyone then named several times, such as when Cardin blocked the bathroom stall so Jaune couldn't get out. Kirby then remembered King Dedede did the exact same thing to Escargoon a while back.

Pyrrah then stated, "If you ever need help, you can just ask."

"Guys, it's fine, besides he's a jerk to everyone, not just me," Jaune pointed out.

"This Cardin guy reminds me of Dedede and Escargoon. Even on another planet, they still are here in a way," Kirby thought.

A few weeks later, the students were going on a field trip to Forever Fall, where everyone had to get one jar of red sap.

"The sap is pretty tasty," Yang whispered to Kirby inside the backpack. Glynda then declared the forest had Grimm.

"Those guys are pushovers compared to NME's monster. We can handle a few of them," Kirby thought.

Later on, Team RWBY and JNPR (excluding Jaune), came across several trees with lots of sap. Since Team JNPR had not officially met Kirby yet, Yang secretly fed him a jar of sap while he was hidden in the backpack. He happily gulped it down.

"Do you like it?" Yang asked.

"Poyo!" Kirby nodded and smiled. Yang was about to give him another, until everyone heard a loud roar.

"Ursa, Ursa!" a student yelled while running.

Yang grabbed him and asked, "What? Where?"

The student replied, "Back there! It's got Cardin!"

"Jaune!" Pyrrah gasped.

"Yang, Blake, go get Professor Goodwitch!" Ruby ordered.

Pyrrah told Nora and Ren to follow them. Just then, Kirby jumped out of the backpack and ran after Ruby.

Yang followed him. "You want to fight too?"

"Poyo!" Kirby replied.

Remembering how Kirby fought Grimm during the initiation, Yang said, "I guess we can help. But just be careful, ok?"

"Ai!" Kirby nodded. They then ran up to Ruby and Weiss, and asked if they could fight instead of Weiss. Weiss reluctantly agreed, and she ran back to get Glynda instead.

They soon encountered Jaune and Cardin fighting the Ursa.

"Oh no!" Pyrrah cried. Ruby was about to use her sythe to help, but Pyrrah stopped her.

"What?!" Kirby thought. "They could be killed if we don't do something! We have to help them!"

Kirby then tried to come out from the bush he was hiding in, but Yang held him back.

"Wait Kirby," she told him. "I think Pyrrah knows what she's doing."

"Poyo," Kirby said sadly, showing how much he wanted to help. Just then, Kirby saw Jaune block the Ursa's attack with his shield and slice it's head off. Even after Pyrrah told everyone her Semblance allows her to control magnets, Kirby was still impressed that Jaune killed the Ursa and protected Cardin, despite being a bully.

That night, after Pyrrah and Jaune reconciled and trained, they returned to their dorm. Back in Team RWBY's dorm, the team thought it was finally time for Team JNPR to meet Kirby.

"He may want to fight again, and if he does, I won't allow anyone to attack him because they don't know him," Yang stated.

So the team went inside Team JNPR's dorm and brought Kirby with them. Nora was the first to see Kirby.

"You are so cute!!" Nora then started to squeeze Kirby, as he tried to escape.

"Nora, it doesn't like that," Ren stated.

"Oh, sorry little guy!" Nora apologized as she put Kirby down.

"Uh guys, what is that?" Jaune asked.

Yang then proceeded to tell everyone how she found him and adopted him. She then explained how Kirby helped defeat Grimm during the initiation.

"Kirby has proven to be a great ally," Pyrrah stated.

"Here, here!" everyone agreed.

"Poyo!" Kirby smiled.
