It was a week and a bit later. Golgotha's colony and his ships were a lot larger in the sky. The weather seemed gloomier, too. We didn't have too much time left. In fact, the attack was in 3 days' time.
Yet another day of school went by in a flash, another day of no communication between me and Vicky. At least Jaiden and his crush.. well, PARTNER were getting along just fine. However, just the pure sight of them talking with slightly pink faces made my heart ache. Maybe it was a sign I should do something..?
With a huff, my hands shifted in my pocket for the keys. Unusually, our Dorm was silent. The door swung open, and my eyes were greeted by darkness and an uncomfortable silence. It was almost like I was the only one who lived here.
"Jay..? Hello? Is this some sort of sick prank?" I gently called into the Dorm. His bedroom door was closed, and no light poured out from the bottom.
I fished my phone from my pocket and clicked on his contact, immediately pressing the phone symbol and calling him. Maybe he was out and about? My heart dropped when the call went to voicemail. I had a really bad feeling about this.
Slowly, I walked closer to his bedroom door, cautiously reaching my hand out to turn the handle. The door clicked open, eyes adjusting to the darkness. Strangely, Jaiden's bedroom window was wide open, and his bed was messy and unmade.
"What on Earth?" I mumbled, snaking around and peering in his usual hiding spots. No trace of him. I felt my heart rate speed up a little, the open window just adding on to my nervousness.
Something within me kept telling me that someone had been here. But who could've?Suddenly, a light knock on the front door echoed through the Dorm. I turned my head, standing upright from my position in a corner of Jay's room. I blinked slowly before making my way to the front door.
"Hel- Oh." I started, stopping when I realized who was before me. It was Vicky. She looked upset and seemed to have been recently crying. I froze, watching cautiously.
"Hi." Vicky mumbled, staring blankly at the floor. Her lip trembled slightly, like she was going to let go again.
"Are you... OK?" I asked quietly, standing motionlessly. She stayed silent before a singular tear ran down her cheek. I chewed the inside of my mouth and gestured for her to come inside.
"I-I'm.. sorry. This is just.. sudden. I.. I'm just.." Vicky started, her lip wobbling entirely before she practically collapsed in on herself. She let out a loud sob, falling to the floor and just crying.
Without anything else to do, I knelt down beside her. I wasn't great at comforting people, yet I gently placed a hand on her shoulder. I allowed her to cry, not daring to move or speak.
"I'm sorry too.. I understand that the last time we spoke, I was angry. Furious, even. I'm.. honestly frightened." I admit warily, watching closely as Vicky calmed her crying a little. She gazed up at me with red, slightly puffy eyes.
"You.. feel the same?" She whispered, blinking slowly and rubbing her eyes. I tilted my head.
"What do you mean? You're always so... confident. And bold." I asked, fully sitting on the floor and crossing my legs. Vicky nodded in reply, chewing her lip carefully.
"I-I don't know.. what I'm doing with myself. I'm dating Evelyn.. yet I don't FEEL anything." Vicky confessed, looking out of the window quietly. I blinked slowly, confusion overtaking me.
"Wait.. so why are you dating her if you don't.. y'know, feel any affection for her?" I asked, standing up from the floor. I stretched my hand down for her to take, in which she accepted and hauled herself up.
