"Oh, simple thing,
where have you gone?
I'm gettin' old, and
I need something to rely on.
So, tell me when
you're gonna let me in
I'm gettin' tired, and
I need somewhere to begin..."

"Captain?! Are you in there?"

The sound of Mark calling for me caused me to jump out of my skin, strumming several accidental notes on my acoustic guitar, creating a terrible tone.

I cleared my throat and answered.
"Yeah?"

"If you're not busy, could you come out here for a second?"

"Um, sure. Just give me a minute."

I sighed for second before getting up, placing my guitar on the ground.
After breathing for a second, I left my tent.
Shortly after, I got a good view of Warp,
Our new colonized planet, slowly becoming more of a home. Many of us already setting out large tents and shelters, exploring the land and claiming territory.
However, I didn't see Mark.

But then I heard rustling from behind me, it was coming the bushes behind me.
I couldn't see Mark and I was hoping to wait for him, but my curiosity was eating at me.
I got closer to the moving bushes.
I heard what I thought was growling.
"Mark?" I called out.

Suddenly, Mark jumped out of the bushes towards me, raising his arms up and roaring.
I fell backwards after letting out a scream.
Once I sat up, he began laughing maniacally.
I got up and began hitting him away.
"Oh my god! I hate you! You're such a punk!"

That only made Mark laugh more.
"Sorry Captain, it was too good, I couldn't resist."

"You're lucky I love you, man."

I got a minute to actually breath.
"So is that why you brought my out here?
Just to scare me?"

He laughed again.
"No. No. That's not the only reason."

He pulled out a small box from his belt and handed it to me.
"What's this?" I asked him.

"You didn't think I would forget your birthday did you?"

I glanced up at him, with a surprised smile.
"Go ahead. Open it."

I removed the top of the box and immediately saw a small medal pin.
It took me a second to realize the pin said "Captain"

"Oh my god..." I said chuckling.

"Peebles and I did a little tinkering and we made you a thing."

I picked up the medal and held it in my hand.
The smile on my face got wider and wider.

"Sorry it's late, I wanted to give it to your this morning but...you know we were busy."

I looked up at him.
"Mark... I love it. Thank you."

I wrapped my arms around him and held him close.
It took him a second to hug back.
"Happy Birthday, Captain."

We pulled away and stared at each other. He sighed softly.
"Sorry again for bothering you."

"Oh no, you're fine."

"Well...I guess I'll see you tomorrow."

"Yeah. Goodnight Captain."

Mark began walking away back to his tent.

"Goodnight Mark."

I clenched onto the medal and began heading back to the tent.
But suddenly I felt a chill go down my spine. The moment I felt was suddenly soured once I stared at the medal.
