005. the deathly illness

BELLS TOLLED IN THE MORNING AIR as Gaius and Teddy knelt besides the man who'd collapsed in the street. Merlin hovered over the two as Gaius and Teddy glanced at one another before continuing their work.
Merlin observed the two. "Aren't you scared?"
"Of what?" Gaius responded.
"That you might catch whatever it is." Merlin replied.
"I'm the court physician, Merlin," Gaius said, looking at his Ward. "This is part of my job."
Merlin leaned down, besides Teddy as Gaius was opposite of the two. "I mean," Teddy began. "There's really nothing to be scared of cause, you know, he's dead."
Gaius flipped over the body. His skin was plate, almost ghost-like, as it showed off his blue veins underneath his skin. His eyes were white and his irises had been ridden completely.
The three shared a shocked expression as Merlin looked at Teddy. "You were saying?"
"People mustn't see this," Gaius looked around. "They'll panic."
Teddy and Merlin both looked around before noticing sheets on somebody's clothesline. Teddy nudged him over as he grabbed one and the trio covered the body up. They watched as the passbyers, making sure they didn't see the body.
Following Gaius, Teddy and Merlin had carried the corpse in a cart as Merlin carried one handle and Teddy the other. They made it through the gates with no questions until the handmaiden, Gwen, came up with a bright smile.
"What are you doing?" The chirpy brunette asked.
Teddy and Merlin turned to face her. "Oh, uh," Merlin stammered. "Just moving something." As he walked around to make sure Gwen wasn't able to see.
"Looks heavy." She peered around him.
Teddy chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. "It's nothing really, Gwen."
Merlin then noticed the flowers in the girls hands. "Someone got you flowers?"
Gwen looked confused before she realized. "Oh, no," She said. "Would you like one? A purple one." Gwen smiled as she gave one of the small flowers to Merlin.
"You could give it to a certain someone." Teddy said, teasingly, as Merlin waved her off.
He turned back to Gwen. "Thanks," He said with a smile. "Well..." He looked for a place to put the flower and noticed his scarf. He exclaimed slightly and placed it there. "Uh, see you."
"Bye," Gwen smiled. "See you later." She waved at Teddy.
And with that over, Merlin grabbed the back end of the cart as they started to move along. They moved it as far as they could before they had to stop. Gaius gathering his items while Teddy looked at the cart.
