Powerless In a Powerful World

Y/N POV

She slouches in an annoyed fashion. I chuckle.

Ruby: "How much further until we reach Haven?"

Jaune: *leans closer to map* "Best calculations. Another week."

Ruby: "Man, this trip is taking forever."

Ren: "No use complaining. We knew it'd take awhile."

Nora: "And this' been the longest awhile in the history of ever."

I shake my head smiling. When my sight returns forward I spot something.

Y/N: "What's that?"

They follow my finger.

Jaune: "Odd. The map doesn't show a village for at least another three days."

Ren: "I vote we check it out."

We wander into the unmarked town. Getting there we find buildings either unfinished or not even started.

Ruby: "Creepy."

Nora: "I got something!"

We join her. She puts two wooden halves together revealing a name.

Ruby: "Oniyuri. I've never heard of it before."

Ren: "I have."

We all look at him.

Ren: "It was set to become the next Mt. Glenn, had it succeeded."

Jaune: "What happened?"

Ren: "Decades ago the richest of Mistral wanted to fund their own town, run by its own rules. So they pooled their funds into this little place. Sadly it never happened."

Nora: "What went wrong?"

Ren: "In its early days of developmemt something came through. It heartlessly killed everyone and everything in its path. When it left all that remained of the town was a symbol of what coulda been. To this day no one knows what came through and what sparked its rampage. And I doubt they ever will."

Y/N: "Then maybe we should get going."

We begin leaving. But for some reason my body tenses up, ceasing all movement.

Ruby: "What is it Y/N?"

In one quick motion I withdraw my sword and spin around holding it above me. Sparks fly into my face as something collides with my sword. 

Ruby: "Y/N!!!"

She fires her scythe at my attacker. They move their weapon blocking the shot. This allows me to launch a kamikaze rocket at them. It explodes in a flash of light taking away their sight. Nora comes in swinging her hammer. It collides into my attacker's chest sending them away. They collide into a building becoming embedded.

Ren: "Who are you?"

They free themselves. They then speak in a woman's voice.

Figure: "Who I am is of no importance. What is, is my goal."

Ruby: "Which would be?"

Figure: "Killing the runt."

I tightly grip my sword handle.

Y/N: "You can try."

They smile under their hood.

Figure: "I fully intend to."

They rush at us. Jaune brings his sword down on them. They however use fire to vault over him. Nora aims her hammer ready to launch grenades at them. But waving their hand fire knocks her back. Landing back on their feet Ren and Ruby put them in their crosshairs. 

Figure: "Foolish children."

Placing their hands on the ground a ring of fire ripples out. Ruby and Ren are hit getting knocked back. My attacker looks at me smiling.

Figure: "Ready yourself child. You're about to die."

Y/N: "I will die."

I raise my sword getting ready.

Y/N: "But it won't be today."

They get ready forming a fireball in their hand. A bird flies overhead making us rush at each other.
