Love at First Sight

Robotnik sat in his Eggmarine, looking around the ocean floor. He had been searching for specimens to create more Badniks, robots that used animals as living batteries. He had been extremely unlucky with his search thus far, the sea floor seemed to be completely empty. He felt confused, unsettled even, at how there seemed to be no sea life around. He couldn't even see plankton floating around.

He scratched his head, looking around the deserted sea city called Bikini Bottom. Not a soul was in sight, until he heard a startling sound, screaming. He steered his Eggmarine to the sound of the noise, hurryingly rushing to the scene. He stopped as soon as he saw what was happening. Millions upon millions of fish, crustaceans, and other creatures screamed and pounded on the Krusty Krabs door.

Robotnik's dull expression turned into an expression of ecstasy, it was like they were being served on a gold platter just for him.

In a moment of excitement, he aimed his laser cannon gun and fired at the Krusty Krab. He missed the first shot and instead obliterated a shoe that was flying down from the water, but no mind, he tried again. The second shot went directly into the Krusty Krab, and the one after that, and the one after that one. All of the creatures screamed for a different reason they were screaming for earlier, this time they were screaming for help. Robotnik threw his scorpion tail blade, letting it go rouge in the Krusty Krab.

He felt powerful. All of these creatures quivered under him, shouting so desperately for help. But no one would come for them. He unleashed his net, capturing many of the poor creatures. Until one in particular caught his eye, a squid. But it did not look like the average squid, he was muscular and chiseled, unlike any he had ever seen.

Robotnik was distracted for a minute, but then he realized he needed to capture more specimens. Although, most of the sea life was already evacuated, so he had to make do with what he had. He had scooped up a sponge, crab, starfish, and of course the handsome squid. Which at first, he couldn't take his eyes off, but he realized he had a job to do. He realized he could make a pretty impressive Badnik from the squid, possibly the strongest ever.

But as he stared into his eyes, he couldn't help but feel bad, he couldn't make him into a Badnik. The squid stared back at him, a glimmer in his eyes. The both of them blushed, seemingly forgetting their surroundings and situation. Robotnik snapped out of his trance and pulled up the net.

He got up from his seat and made his way over to where the net had been pulled up, the sea creatures suddenly became dried out, perfect. They were vulnerable. Robotnik took them out of the net and placed them in a tank full of water, closing the lid. He stared at his new specimens. The sponge seemed weak, the starfish even weaker, the crab seemed promising, the squid even more promising.

The squid put his tentacles against the tank, looking disconcerted. Robotnik looked back at him, he couldn't help but press his hands against the glass as well.

"I fear I cannot make you into a robot, you seem too... alive." Robotnik muttered.

The squid gave him a sympathetic look, he seemed to want to say something. But Robotnik couldn't tell what, he could only hear gurgling.

"What is it you want to say? I might never know; we are from different worlds." Robotnik said, turning away from the squid.

Robotnik returned to his seat and started up the engine, it was time to go home. He went to surface and made his way there, occasionally glancing back at the handsome squid, making sure he's okay. He hadn't felt such an attraction to someone as he felt now, it was weird at first but now it felt familiar. When Robotnik returned to his laboratory he parked his submarine in the water. He called his robots to take the tank inside and made his way up to his house.

He yearned to see the squid again, he didn't even know his name, or any of his interests. But he knew it was true love, pure or not it did not matter. His robots placed the tank on the floor, dismissing themselves to do other work Robotnik had assigned for them. Robotnik turned to see the squid, their eyes interlocked immediately. He walked towards the squid, peering into his eyes.

"I wish I could talk to you, but alas, you are a squid." Eggman felt a tinge of sadness.

He needed to talk to him, sooner than later. He turned to his work desk and began to draw out a plan, a plan to allow the squid to breathe on the surface. He knew he had to be quick, they might and escape. Which was no good.

Robotnik worked on his invention day and night, perfecting every little detail, all for the squid he thought. Once he was done he headed over to the tank, holding the invention in his hands like it was his child. He opened the lid to the tank, only letting the squid out.

"You will be the first, and only, to breathe above the surface of the water." Robotnik said, putting the squid to sleep.

The operation was long and difficult, but Eggman persevered, for his love he had to. He will not have anyone stop him from doing this, not even that darn hedgehog Sonic!  Once he was done, he let the squid heal, he would not be able to talk for a bit, but he was able to breathe oxygen. Eggman decided while he was waiting for the squid to heal he would make the sponge into a Badnik. It was the first sponge he would experiment on, so he had to take creative liberties.

After he drew out the plan, he felt exhausted, so he decided to go to sleep. Which he would later find as a bad idea.
