Sheʼs Temporary Teacher Of Section Gang

Chapter 2

I let a long sigh after they left the classroom.

Honestly, I donʼt want to teach when they treat me like this. But I still wonʼt give up on them because Iʼll only teach them for one week. At isa pa, magmumukha akong talunan kapag sinukuan ko agad sila.

I shook my head when I saw the cigarette butts scattered on the floor and the wine bottles in different corners of room. According to Brinley, they are not prohibited from using anything here inside the campus. 

Biglang nag-vibrate ang phone ko. I quickly took it out of my pocket and answered the call.

“Howʼs your teaching, my daughter?” Bungad sa akin ni Brinley mula sa kabilang linya.

Oh, did she really call to annoyed me?

“Itʼs fine, Brinley. I really enjoyed it,” I responded sarcastically. 

I heard her laugh which made me even more irritated. 

“Just be patient, my daughter,” she said. 

Habaan ang pasensiya? Eh, isang araw ko pa lang sa pagtuturo rito—inuubos na nila ang pasensiya ko! 

What if I stay here longer? I might get into trouble!

Pagkaraan ay nagsalita siya. “When will you call me mom again? Nakakabastos kasi ang pagtawag mo sa akin sa pangalan.” I could hear the sullenness in her voice. 

“Sana hindi na lang nag-aral ang mga gagong ‘yon!” I was irritated as if I didnʼt hear what she said. 

As I was going down the stairs, I was kicking the plastic bottles that were blocking my way and because of my annoyance, they fell so loudly that they created a deafening noise. 

“Kailan ka ba uuwi?”

Bumaba ako sa hagdan habang nakapasok sa bulsa ang isa kong kamay. Tiniis ko ang mabahong amoy na nanunuot sa ilong ko. 

“I canʼt go home there yet, your dad needs me here...”

“WHAT?!” bulalas ko. 

Sandali akong napamaang bago napatampal sa sariling noo. 

Ibig sabihin... matatagal ako rito? Hell no! 

Why is she doing her husbandʼs business when this is her responsibility that I am doing right now?!

“Whoʼs that, hon?” I heard Laurenʼs voice in the background. I didnʼt wait for Brinley to response because I quickly cut the line. 

Para akong sinampal sa katotohanan na wala na akong kawala. I canʼt accept that Iʼll be teaching the Section Gang for several months.

I want to refuse and ask the principal to assign me to another section ngunit tila may pumipigil sa akin na huwag ituloy iyon. I donʼt know why. Thereʼs a part of me that wants to find out what they are hiding behind their handsome faces. I feel like it is a challenge for me to teach those gangsters. Well, it will be exciting, right? 

Napabuntong-hininga na lamang ako dahil sa naiisip ko. 

Binuksan ko ang pinto ng faculty room at nadatnan ko roon sina Sofia, Eunice at Darwin na nasa kani-kanilang table. I closed the door so hard that they turned their eyes to me.
