While Kei and Riko were constantly chatting behind me, I was just looking at Yohan, who was busy reading a book. I then remembered our interaction last night and how my nervousness had resurfaced. Simula noong hindi inaaasahang pagtatagpo namin kahapon, tuluyang nag-iba ang paningin ko sa kanya.
"Why are you running away from me?"
Palaging emotionless at malamig ang mga mata niya. Even his voice is quite motonous. But something about him last night gives me a slight shiver on my spine. His gaze were dark and fierce. There's this dark ambience surrounding him.
"Ikaw ang humahabol sakin? You don't have any idea how scared I was!"
I can't tell if it's because of how isolated the street were or there was only one street light above us, Yohan was completely different as if he changed his entire demeanor.
"There was a weird guy following you. I was just making sure you won't be harm."
Si Yohan ba talaga iyong nakausap ko? Ba't naging concerned bigla?
Nagpasalamat na lamang ako sa kanya for keeping an eye on me. Hindi ko rin alam kung anong gagawin ko if I'm actually being followed by a strange man. Baka iyong lalaking nakasunod sakin kahapon ay ang kidnapper na tinutukoy nila. I could've been in a serious situation if it weren't for Yohan.
Ngunit may bumabagabag sa isipan ko.
He went home earlier than Riko and Kei. My shift ended at 10 in the evening because I worked overtime. What was he doing out there on the desolate street?
"Was my quiz yesterday that hard? Madami sa inyo ang hindi nakaabot ng passing score." natauhan ako nang magsalita ang teacher namin sa harapan. It was a math quiz.
Panay reklamo ng mga ka-klase ko dahil sobrang hirap daw. They even beg our teacher to give extra points for the solution though their answers were all wrong. Syempre mas matigas pa si miss sa bato kaya hindi siya pumayag.
"Ibabalik ko sa inyo ang mga papel because I had already recorded your scores. So far, I'm quite fascinated by this one student." nag-angat siya ng tingin at ningitian ako.
"For the first time, someone broke Yohan's record."
Nagsitinginan silang lahat sakin. I felt quite awkward by their stares, my fingers can't stop fidgeting.
"Let's give a round of applause to Ren. She did a very good job."
Only a few clapped, their faces showing surprise and confusion. It was like deja vu for all of us. The only people who truly applauded me were Riko and Kei. Meanwhile, Yohan made no attempt to look in my direction. I can't tell what he's feeling.
As I darted my gaze in Sara's direction, they looked displeased.
"Pa'no mo ulit nagawa 'yun Ren? Paturo naman kami next time. Pakiramdam kong manganganib ako sa statistics eh." wika ni Kei at nilapag sa table ang biniling snacks. Dahil madaming tao sa cafeteria, dito nalang kami kakain.
