"Friendship is another word for love." - UNKNOWN
PRESENT DAY
CELESTE

Today's the day. It's Tuesday afternoon. Usually if I was going out with my friends, I'd wear something bright and colorful, but since it's Lucifer, I might as well dress in something kind of dreary. It's a rather foggy day, too. I walk downstairs carrying my books, and immediately Mama notices.

"Oh, honey, where are you going?" she asks.

"To King's Plaza."

"What's in King's Plaza?"

"Yeah, what's in King's Plaza?" Silver asks.

"Shut up, Silver," I snap.

"Yeah, shut up, Silver!" Rune, my younger sister, adds.

"Can the both of you shut up?" Mama says. The two of them go silent.

"So why are you going to King's Plaza?"

"Gia and Jessica are there. I'm meeting up with them."

"With books?" Silver says.

Mama glares at Silver, and she doesn't say any more.

"Okay, but when are you going to be back?"

"Whenever I get back. I'll send you a text when I'm on my way home. Can I go now?"

"I'm not letting you leave until I get a time date for when you're coming home. Is there a boy you're meeting?"

"Okay, why do you care? It's not like you're ever this engaged in my life when I need you. You're only there when you need to pester me, now move out of the way of the door."

I push her away from the door and leave. As I walk down the steps of the porch and down the street to the park, I begin to regret saying that. I wonder what Mama is thinking now. It was a little true, but I'd never actually said it to her face.

There are a few kids in the park, but I ignore them as I walk down the dirt path and towards one of the park benches where I see Lucifer eating an apple.

"So you do eat..." I say accidentally.

"What?" He says.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I..." I bit my tongue. "There is a rumor that you don't."

Lucifer raises an eyebrow and throws the apple core in the trash. "Are you serious?"

"Well, I don't believe in it. I always had a hunch that it was fake. I just think you have a sophisticated palate."

Lucifer stares at me for a second. "You're right. Sit."

I sit next to him on the bench.

"I'm glad you decided to come. I was going to the park anyway to get out of the house for a bit, so it's not like if you didn't show I'd be offended or anything."

"Oh, okay. I'm glad I came, too."

We get to work on random problems. It seems that everything becomes a lot easier with Lucifer around. I almost forgot about my fight with my mom. At times, Lucifer and I get close enough till our shoulders touch, and I begin to blush. As we carry on with determining the difference between Isle of Spirits and The Dark Isle, I hear a playful screaming. I look up and see a kid being pushed on the swings by his mother.

"Higher!" he says eagerly, pointing in the air.

He goes higher on the swing, and the mother laughs as she makes rocket sound effects which cause the little boy to giggle as well.

"You're distracted," Lucifer says.

I turn to him. "Huh? What? No, I'm not."

"Yes, you were. You have been ever since we started. I saw that look in your eye. Something happened, didn't it?"
